मनमुखु मुआ अपुना जनमु खोइ ॥
Manamukh Mua Apuna Janam Khoe ||
The self-willed manmukh dies; his life is wasted.
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ ਮੁਆ ਹੈ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਇ ॥
बिनु सबदै मुआ है सभु कोइ ॥
Bin Sabadhai Mua Hai Sabh Koe ||
Without the Shabad, everyone is dead.
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਹਰਿ ਰਸਿ ਧ੍ਰਾਪੈ ॥
गुर परसादी हरि रसि ध्रापै ॥
Gur Parasadhee Har Ras Dhhrapai ||
By Guru*s Grace, the mortal is satisfied by the sublime essence of the Lord.
ਆਪਣੈ ਰੋਹਿ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਦਝੈ ॥
आपणै रोहि आपे ही दझै ॥
Apanai Rohi Apae Hee Dhajhai ||
By his own anger, he only burns himself.

ਅਭਿਆਗਤ ਏਹ ਨ ਆਖੀਅਹਿ ਜਿਨ ਕੈ ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਭਰਮੁ ॥
अभिआगत एह न आखीअहि जिन कै मन महि भरमु ॥
Abhiagath Eaeh N Akheeahi Jin Kai Man Mehi Bharam ||
Do not call the wandering beggars holy men, if their minds are filled with doubt.
ਤਿਨ ਕੇ ਦਿਤੇ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਤੇਹੋ ਜੇਹਾ ਧਰਮੁ ॥੧॥
तिन के दिते नानका तेहो जेहा धरमु ॥१॥
Thin Kae Dhithae Naanaka Thaeho Jaeha Dhharam ||1||
Whoever gives to them, O Nanak, earns the same sort of merit. ||1||
ਅਭੈ ਨਿਰੰਜਨ ਪਰਮ ਪਦੁ ਤਾ ਕਾ ਭੀਖਕੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
अभै निरंजन परम पदु ता का भीखकु होइ ॥
Abhai Niranjan Param Padh Tha Ka Bheekhak Hoe ||
One who begs for the supreme status of the Fearless and Immaculate Lord
ਸਾਲਾਹੀ ਸਾਲਾਹਣਾ ਭੀ ਸਚਾ ਸਾਲਾਹਿ ॥
सालाही सालाहणा भी सचा सालाहि ॥
Salahee Salahana Bhee Sacha Salahi ||
I praise the Praiseworthy Lord, and sing the Praises of the True Lord.
ਨਾਨਕ ਜਹ ਜਹ ਮੈ ਫਿਰਉ ਤਹ ਤਹ ਸਾਚਾ ਸੋਇ ॥
नानक जह जह मै फिरउ तह तह साचा सोइ ॥
Naanak Jeh Jeh Mai Firo Theh Theh Sacha Soe ||
O Nanak, wherever I go, I find the True Lord.
ਤਿਸ ਕਾ ਭੋਜਨੁ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਪਾਏ ਕੋਇ ॥੨॥
तिस का भोजनु नानका विरला पाए कोइ ॥२॥
This Ka Bhojan Naanaka Virala Paeae Koe ||2||
- how rare are those who have the opportunity, O Nanak, to give food to such a person. ||2||
ਹੋਵਾ ਪੰਡਿਤੁ ਜੋਤਕੀ ਵੇਦ ਪੜਾ ਮੁਖਿ ਚਾਰਿ ॥
होवा पंडितु जोतकी वेद पड़ा मुखि चारि ॥
Hova Panddith Jothakee Vaedh Parra Mukh Char ||
If I were a religious scholar, an astrologer, or one who could recite the four Vedas,
ਨਵਾ ਖੰਡਾ ਵਿਚਿ ਜਾਣੀਆ ਅਪਨੇ ਚਜ ਵੀਚਾਰ ॥੩॥
नवा खंडा विचि जाणीआ अपने चज वीचार ॥३॥
Nava Khandda Vich Janeea Apanae Chaj Veechar ||3||
I could be famous throughout the nine regions of the earth, for my wisdom and thoughtful contemplation. ||3||
ਬ੍ਰਹਮਣ ਕੈਲੀ ਘਾਤੁ ਕੰਕਾ ਅਣਚਾਰੀ ਕਾ ਧਾਨੁ ॥
ब्रहमण कैली घातु कंका अणचारी का धानु ॥
Brehaman Kailee Ghath Kannjaka Anacharee Ka Dhhan ||
If a Brahmin kills a cow or a female infant, and accepts the offerings of an evil person,
ਫਿਟਕ ਫਿਟਕਾ ਕੋੜੁ ਬਦੀਆ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ॥
फिटक फिटका कोड़ु बदीआ सदा सदा अभिमानु ॥
Fittak Fittaka Korr Badheea Sadha Sadha Abhiman ||
He is cursed with the leprosy of curses and criticism; he is forever and ever filled with egotistical pride.
ਪਾਹਿ ਏਤੇ ਜਾਹਿ ਵੀਸਰਿ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਇਕੁ ਨਾਮੁ ॥
पाहि एते जाहि वीसरि नानका इकु नामु ॥
Pahi Eaethae Jahi Veesar Naanaka Eik Nam ||
One who forgets the Naam, O Nanak, is covered by countless sins.
ਸਭ ਬੁਧੀ ਜਾਲੀਅਹਿ ਇਕੁ ਰਹੈ ਤਤੁ ਗਿਆਨੁ ॥੪॥
सभ बुधी जालीअहि इकु रहै ततु गिआनु ॥४॥
Sabh Budhhee Jaleeahi Eik Rehai Thath Gian ||4||
Let all wisdom be burnt away, except for the essence of spiritual wisdom. ||4||
ਮਾਥੈ ਜੋ ਧੁਰਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਸੁ ਮੇਟਿ ਨ ਸਕੈ ਕੋਇ ॥
माथै जो धुरि लिखिआ सु मेटि न सकै कोइ ॥
Mathhai Jo Dhhur Likhia S Maett N Sakai Koe ||
No one can erase that primal destiny written upon one*s forehead.
ਨਾਨਕ ਜੋ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਸੋ ਵਰਤਦਾ ਸੋ ਬੂਝੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਨਦਰਿ ਹੋਇ ॥੫॥
नानक जो लिखिआ सो वरतदा सो बूझै जिस नो नदरि होइ ॥५॥
Naanak Jo Likhia So Varathadha So Boojhai Jis No Nadhar Hoe ||5||
O Nanak, whatever is written there, comes to pass. He alone understands, who is blessed by God*s Grace. ||5||
ਜਿਨੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਿਆ ਕੂੜੈ ਲਾਲਚਿ ਲਗਿ ॥
जिनी नामु विसारिआ कूड़ै लालचि लगि ॥
Jinee Nam Visaria Koorrai Lalach Lag ||
Those who forget the Naam, the Name of the Lord, and become attached to greed and fraud,
ਧੰਧਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਣੀ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਤਿਸਨਾ ਅਗਿ ॥
धंधा माइआ मोहणी अंतरि तिसना अगि ॥
Dhhandhha Maeia Mohanee Anthar Thisana Ag ||
Are engrossed in the entanglements of Maya the enticer, with the fire of desire within them.
ਜਿਨ੍ਾ ਵੇਲਿ ਨ ਤੂੰਬੜੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਠਗੇ ਠਗਿ ॥
जिन्ा वेलि न तूंबड़ी माइआ ठगे ठगि ॥
Jinha Vael N Thoonbarree Maeia Thagae Thag ||
Those who, like the pumpkin vine, are too stubborn climb the trellis, are cheated by Maya the cheater.
ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਬੰਨ੍ ਿਚਲਾਈਅਹਿ ਨਾ ਮਿਲਹੀ ਵਗਿ ਸਗਿ ॥
मनमुखि बंन् िचलाईअहि ना मिलही वगि सगि ॥
Manamukh Bannih Chalaeeahi Na Milehee Vag Sag ||
The self-willed manmukhs are bound and gagged and led away; the dogs do not join the herd of cows.
ਆਪਿ ਭੁਲਾਏ ਭੁਲੀਐ ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥
आपि भुलाए भुलीऐ आपे मेलि मिलाइ ॥
Ap Bhulaeae Bhuleeai Apae Mael Milae ||
The Lord Himself misleads the misguided ones, and He Himself unites them in His Union
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਛੁਟੀਐ ਜੇ ਚਲੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਭਾਇ ॥੬॥
नानक गुरमुखि छुटीऐ जे चलै सतिगुर भाइ ॥६॥
Naanak Guramukh Shhutteeai Jae Chalai Sathigur Bhae ||6||
O Nanak, the Gurmukhs are saved; they walk in harmony with the Will of the True Guru. ||6||
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚਾ ਏਕੁ ਦਰੁ ਬੀਭਾ ਪਰਹਰਿ ਆਹਿ ॥੭॥
नानक सचा एकु दरु बीभा परहरि आहि ॥७॥
Naanak Sacha Eaek Dhar Beebha Parehar Ahi ||7||
O Nanak, the One Lord alone is True; stay away from all other doors. ||7||
ਜਹ ਦੇਖਾ ਤਹ ਏਕੁ ਹੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੮॥
जह देखा तह एकु है गुरमुखि परगटु होइ ॥८॥
Jeh Dhaekha Theh Eaek Hai Guramukh Paragatt Hoe ||8||
Wherever I look, I see the One Lord. He reveals Himself to the Gurmukh. ||8||
ਦੂਖ ਵਿਸਾਰਣੁ ਸਬਦੁ ਹੈ ਜੇ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਏ ਕੋਇ ॥
दूख विसारणु सबदु है जे मंनि वसाए कोइ ॥
Dhookh Visaran Sabadh Hai Jae Mann Vasaeae Koe ||
The Word of the Shabad is the Dispeller of sorrow, if one enshrines it in the mind.
ਗੁਰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਕਰਮ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥੯॥
गुर किरपा ते मनि वसै करम परापति होइ ॥९॥
Gur Kirapa Thae Man Vasai Karam Parapath Hoe ||9||
By Guru*s Grace, it dwells in the mind; by God*s Mercy, it is obtained. ||9||
ਨਾਨਕ ਹਉ ਹਉ ਕਰਤੇ ਖਪਿ ਮੁਏ ਖੂਹਣਿ ਲਖ ਅਸੰਖ ॥
नानक हउ हउ करते खपि मुए खूहणि लख असंख ॥
Naanak Ho Ho Karathae Khap Mueae Khoohan Lakh Asankh ||
O Nanak, acting in egotism, countless thousands have wasted away to death.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਮਿਲੇ ਸੁ ਉਬਰੇ ਸਾਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਅਲੰਖ ॥੧੦॥
सतिगुर मिले सु उबरे साचै सबदि अलंख ॥१०॥
Sathigur Milae S Oubarae Sachai Sabadh Alankh ||10||
Those who meet with the True Guru are saved, through the Shabad, the True Word of the Inscrutable Lord. ||10||
ਜਿਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਇਕ ਮਨਿ ਸੇਵਿਆ ਤਿਨ ਜਨ ਲਾਗਉ ਪਾਇ ॥
जिना सतिगुरु इक मनि सेविआ तिन जन लागउ पाइ ॥
Jina Sathigur Eik Man Saevia Thin Jan Lago Pae ||
Those who serve the True Guru single-mindedly - I fall at the feet of those humble beings.
ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਹਰਿ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਮਾਇਆ ਕੀ ਭੁਖ ਜਾਇ ॥
गुर सबदी हरि मनि वसै माइआ की भुख जाइ ॥
Gur Sabadhee Har Man Vasai Maeia Kee Bhukh Jae ||
Through the Word of the Guru*s Shabad, the Lord abides in the mind, and the hunger for Maya departs.
ਸੇ ਜਨ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਊਜਲੇ ਜਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥
से जन निरमल ऊजले जि गुरमुखि नामि समाइ ॥
Sae Jan Niramal Oojalae J Guramukh Nam Samae ||
Immaculate and pure are those humble beings, who, as Gurmukh, merge in the Naam.
ਨਾਨਕ ਹੋਰਿ ਪਤਿਸਾਹੀਆ ਕੂੜੀਆ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹ ॥੧੧॥
नानक होरि पतिसाहीआ कूड़ीआ नामि रते पातिसाह ॥११॥
Naanak Hor Pathisaheea Koorreea Nam Rathae Pathisah ||11||
O Nanak, other empires are false; they alone are true emperors, who are imbued with the Naam. ||11||
ਜਿਉ ਪੁਰਖੈ ਘਰਿ ਭਗਤੀ ਨਾਰਿ ਹੈ ਅਤਿ ਲੋਚੈ ਭਗਤੀ ਭਾਇ ॥
जिउ पुरखै घरि भगती नारि है अति लोचै भगती भाइ ॥
Jio Purakhai Ghar Bhagathee Nar Hai Ath Lochai Bhagathee Bhae ||
The devoted wife in her husband*s home has a great longing to perform loving devotional service to him;
ਬਹੁ ਰਸ ਸਾਲਣੇ ਸਵਾਰਦੀ ਖਟ ਰਸ ਮੀਠੇ ਪਾਇ ॥
बहु रस सालणे सवारदी खट रस मीठे पाइ ॥
Bahu Ras Salanae Savaradhee Khatt Ras Meethae Pae ||
She prepares and offers to him all sorts of sweet delicacies and dishes of all flavors.
ਤਿਉ ਬਾਣੀ ਭਗਤ ਸਲਾਹਦੇ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੈ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇ ॥
तिउ बाणी भगत सलाहदे हरि नामै चितु लाइ ॥
Thio Banee Bhagath Salahadhae Har Namai Chith Lae ||
In the same way, the devotees praise the Word of the Guru*s Bani, and focus their consciousness on the Lord*s Name.
ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਧਨੁ ਆਗੈ ਰਾਖਿਆ ਸਿਰੁ ਵੇਚਿਆ ਗੁਰ ਆਗੈ ਜਾਇ ॥
मनु तनु धनु आगै राखिआ सिरु वेचिआ गुर आगै जाइ ॥
Man Than Dhhan Agai Rakhia Sir Vaechia Gur Agai Jae ||
They place mind, body and wealth in offering before the Guru, and sell their heads to Him.
ਭੈ ਭਗਤੀ ਭਗਤ ਬਹੁ ਲੋਚਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਲੋਚਾ ਪੂਰਿ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥
भै भगती भगत बहु लोचदे प्रभ लोचा पूरि मिलाइ ॥
Bhai Bhagathee Bhagath Bahu Lochadhae Prabh Locha Poor Milae ||
In the Fear of God, His devotees yearn for His devotional worship; God fulfills their desires, and merges them with Himself.
ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਵੇਪਰਵਾਹੁ ਹੈ ਕਿਤੁ ਖਾਧੈ ਤਿਪਤਾਇ ॥
हरि प्रभु वेपरवाहु है कितु खाधै तिपताइ ॥
Har Prabh Vaeparavahu Hai Kith Khadhhai Thipathae ||
My Lord God is Self-existent and Independent. What does He need to eat to be satisfied?
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਭਾਣੈ ਜੋ ਚਲੈ ਤਿਪਤਾਸੈ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇ ॥
सतिगुर कै भाणै जो चलै तिपतासै हरि गुण गाइ ॥
Sathigur Kai Bhanai Jo Chalai Thipathasai Har Gun Gae ||
Whoever walks in harmony with the Will of the True Guru, and sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord, is pleasing to Him.
ਧਨੁ ਧਨੁ ਕਲਜੁਗਿ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਜਿ ਚਲੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਭਾਇ ॥੧੨॥
धनु धनु कलजुगि नानका जि चले सतिगुर भाइ ॥१२॥
Dhhan Dhhan Kalajug Naanaka J Chalae Sathigur Bhae ||12||
Blessed, blessed are they, in this Dark Age of Kali Yuga, O Nanak, who walk in harmony with the Will of the True Guru. ||12||
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨ ਸੇਵਿਓ ਸਬਦੁ ਨ ਰਖਿਓ ਉਰ ਧਾਰਿ ॥
सतिगुरू न सेविओ सबदु न रखिओ उर धारि ॥
Sathiguroo N Saeviou Sabadh N Rakhiou Our Dhhar ||
Those who do not serve the True Guru, and do not keep the Shabad enshrined in their hearts
ਧਿਗੁ ਤਿਨਾ ਕਾ ਜੀਵਿਆ ਕਿਤੁ ਆਏ ਸੰਸਾਰਿ ॥
धिगु तिना का जीविआ कितु आए संसारि ॥
Dhhig Thina Ka Jeevia Kith Aeae Sansar ||
Cursed are their lives. Why did they even come into the world?
ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਭਉ ਮਨਿ ਪਵੈ ਤਾਂ ਹਰਿ ਰਸਿ ਲਗੈ ਪਿਆਰਿ ॥
गुरमती भउ मनि पवै तां हरि रसि लगै पिआरि ॥
Guramathee Bho Man Pavai Than Har Ras Lagai Piar ||
If one follows the Guru*s Teachings, and keeps the Fear of God in his mind, then he is lovingly attuned to the sublime essence of the Lord.
ਨਾਉ ਮਿਲੈ ਧੁਰਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਪਾਰਿ ਉਤਾਰਿ ॥੧੩॥
नाउ मिलै धुरि लिखिआ जन नानक पारि उतारि ॥१३॥
Nao Milai Dhhur Likhia Jan Naanak Par Outhar ||13||
By his primal destiny, he obtains the Name; O Nanak, he is carried across. ||13||
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਜਗੁ ਭਰਮਿਆ ਘਰੁ ਮੁਸੈ ਖਬਰਿ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥
माइआ मोहि जगु भरमिआ घरु मुसै खबरि न होइ ॥
Maeia Mohi Jag Bharamia Ghar Musai Khabar N Hoe ||
The world wanders lost in emotional attachment to Maya; it does not realize that its own home is being plundered.
ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧਿ ਮਨੁ ਹਿਰਿ ਲਇਆ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਅੰਧਾ ਲੋਇ ॥
काम क्रोधि मनु हिरि लइआ मनमुख अंधा लोइ ॥
Kam Krodhh Man Hir Laeia Manamukh Andhha Loe ||
The self-willed manmukh is blind in the world; his mind is lured away by sexual desire and anger.
ਗਿਆਨ ਖੜਗ ਪੰਚ ਦੂਤ ਸੰਘਾਰੇ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਜਾਗੈ ਸੋਇ ॥
गिआन खड़ग पंच दूत संघारे गुरमति जागै सोइ ॥
Gian Kharrag Panch Dhooth Sangharae Guramath Jagai Soe ||
With the sword of spiritual wisdom, kill the five demons. Remain awake and aware to the Guru*s Teachings.
ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਕਾ ਚੋਲੜਾ ਸਭ ਗਲਿ ਆਏ ਪਾਇ ॥
काम क्रोध का चोलड़ा सभ गलि आए पाइ ॥
Kam Krodhh Ka Cholarra Sabh Gal Aeae Pae ||
All have come, wearing the robes of sexual desire and anger.
ਸਬਦਿ ਮਰੈ ਸੋ ਮੁਆ ਜਾਪੈ ॥
सबदि मरै सो मुआ जापै ॥
Sabadh Marai So Mua Japai ||
Whoever dies in the Word of the Shabad, is known to be truly dead.
ਨਾਮ ਰਤਨੁ ਪਰਗਾਸਿਆ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
नाम रतनु परगासिआ मनु तनु निरमलु होइ ॥
Nam Rathan Paragasia Man Than Niramal Hoe ||
The Jewel of the Naam is revealed, and the mind and body are purified.
ਨਾਮਹੀਨ ਨਕਟੇ ਫਿਰਹਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਬਹਿ ਰੋਇ ॥
नामहीन नकटे फिरहि बिनु नावै बहि रोइ ॥
Nameheen Nakattae Firehi Bin Navai Behi Roe ||
Those who lack the Naam wander around lost, with their noses cut off; without the Name, they sit and cry.
ਨਾਨਕ ਜੋ ਧੁਰਿ ਕਰਤੈ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਸੁ ਮੇਟਿ ਨ ਸਕੈ ਕੋਇ ॥੧੪॥
नानक जो धुरि करतै लिखिआ सु मेटि न सकै कोइ ॥१४॥
Naanak Jo Dhhur Karathai Likhia S Maett N Sakai Koe ||14||
O Nanak, no one can erase that which is pre-ordained by the Creator Lord. ||14||
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾ ਹਰਿ ਧਨੁ ਖਟਿਆ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ॥
गुरमुखा हरि धनु खटिआ गुर कै सबदि वीचारि ॥
Guramukha Har Dhhan Khattia Gur Kai Sabadh Veechar ||
The Gurmukhs earn the wealth of the Lord, contemplating the Word of the Guru*s Shabad.
ਨਾਮੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਅਤੁਟ ਭਰੇ ਭੰਡਾਰ ॥
नामु पदारथु पाइआ अतुट भरे भंडार ॥
Nam Padharathh Paeia Athutt Bharae Bhanddar ||
They receive the wealth of the Naam; their treasures are overflowing.
ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਬਾਣੀ ਉਚਰਹਿ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਰਾਵਾਰੁ ॥
हरि गुण बाणी उचरहि अंतु न पारावारु ॥
Har Gun Banee Oucharehi Anth N Paravar ||
Through the Word of the Guru*s Bani, they utter the Glorious Praises of the Lord, whose end and limitations cannot be found.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਭ ਕਾਰਣ ਕਰਤਾ ਕਰੈ ਵੇਖੈ ਸਿਰਜਨਹਾਰੁ ॥੧੫॥
नानक सभ कारण करता करै वेखै सिरजनहारु ॥१५॥

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਹਜੁ ਹੈ ਮਨੁ ਚੜਿਆ ਦਸਵੈ ਆਕਾਸਿ ॥
गुरमुखि अंतरि सहजु है मनु चड़िआ दसवै आकासि ॥
Guramukh Anthar Sehaj Hai Man Charria Dhasavai Akas ||
Within the Gurmukh is intuitive peace and poise; his mind ascends to the Tenth Plane of the Akaashic Ethers.
ਤਿਥੈ ਊਂਘ ਨ ਭੁਖ ਹੈ ਹਰਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਸੁਖ ਵਾਸੁ ॥
तिथै ऊंघ न भुख है हरि अंम्रित नामु सुख वासु ॥
Thithhai Oonagh N Bhukh Hai Har Anmrith Nam Sukh Vas ||
No one is sleepy or hungry there; they dwell in the peace of the Ambrosial Name of the Lord.
ਨਾਨਕ ਦੁਖੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਵਿਆਪਤ ਨਹੀ ਜਿਥੈ ਆਤਮ ਰਾਮ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸੁ ॥੧੬॥
नानक दुखु सुखु विआपत नही जिथै आतम राम प्रगासु ॥१६॥
Naanak Dhukh Sukh Viapath Nehee Jithhai Atham Ram Pragas ||16||
O Nanak, pain and pleasure do not afflict anyone, where the Light of the Lord, the Supreme Soul, illuminates. ||16||
ਇਕਿ ਉਪਜਹਿ ਇਕਿ ਬਿਨਸਿ ਜਾਂਹਿ ਹੁਕਮੇ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਇ ॥
इकि उपजहि इकि बिनसि जांहि हुकमे आवै जाइ ॥
Eik Oupajehi Eik Binas Janhi Hukamae Avai Jae ||
Some are born, and some pass away. They come and go according to the Hukam of the Lord*s Command.
ਜੰਮਣੁ ਮਰਣੁ ਨ ਚੁਕਈ ਰੰਗੁ ਲਗਾ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ॥
जंमणु मरणु न चुकई रंगु लगा दूजै भाइ ॥
Janman Maran N Chukee Rang Laga Dhoojai Bhae ||
Their comings and goings in reincarnation do not end; they are imbued with the love of duality.
ਬੰਧਨਿ ਬੰਧਿ ਭਵਾਈਅਨੁ ਕਰਣਾ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥੧੭॥
बंधनि बंधि भवाईअनु करणा कछू न जाइ ॥१७॥
Bandhhan Bandhh Bhavaeean Karana Kashhoo N Jae ||17||
Bound in bondage, they are made to wander, and they cannot do anything about it. ||17||
ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰੀਅਨੁ ਤਿਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਆਇ ॥
जिन कउ किरपा धारीअनु तिना सतिगुरु मिलिआ आइ ॥
Jin Ko Kirapa Dhhareean Thina Sathigur Milia Ae ||
Those, upon whom the Lord showers His Mercy, come and meet the True Guru.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਮਿਲੇ ਉਲਟੀ ਭਈ ਮਰਿ ਜੀਵਿਆ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥
सतिगुरि मिले उलटी भई मरि जीविआ सहजि सुभाइ ॥
Sathigur Milae Oulattee Bhee Mar Jeevia Sehaj Subhae ||
Meeting with the True Guru, they turn away from the world; they remain dead while still alive, with intuitive peace and poise.
ਨਾਨਕ ਭਗਤੀ ਰਤਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੧੮॥
नानक भगती रतिआ हरि हरि नामि समाइ ॥१८॥
Naanak Bhagathee Rathia Har Har Nam Samae ||18||
O Nanak, the devotees are imbued with the Lord; they are absorbed in the Name of the Lord. ||18||
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਚੰਚਲ ਮਤਿ ਹੈ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ॥
मनमुख चंचल मति है अंतरि बहुतु चतुराई ॥
Manamukh Chanchal Math Hai Anthar Bahuth Chathuraee ||
The intellect of the self-willed manmukh is fickle; he is very tricky and clever within.
ਕੀਤਾ ਕਰਤਿਆ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਗਇਆ ਇਕੁ ਤਿਲੁ ਥਾਇ ਨ ਪਾਈ ॥
कीता करतिआ बिरथा गइआ इकु तिलु थाइ न पाई ॥
Keetha Karathia Birathha Gaeia Eik Thil Thhae N Paee ||
Whatever he has done, and all that he does, is useless. Not even an iota of it is acceptable.
ਪੁੰਨ ਦਾਨੁ ਜੋ ਬੀਜਦੇ ਸਭ ਧਰਮ ਰਾਇ ਕੈ ਜਾਈ ॥
पुंन दानु जो बीजदे सभ धरम राइ कै जाई ॥
Punn Dhan Jo Beejadhae Sabh Dhharam Rae Kai Jaee ||
The charity and generosity he pretends to give will be judged by the Righteous Judge of Dharma.
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਜਮਕਾਲੁ ਨ ਛੋਡਈ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਖੁਆਈ ॥
बिनु सतिगुरू जमकालु न छोडई दूजै भाइ खुआई ॥
Bin Sathiguroo Jamakal N Shhoddee Dhoojai Bhae Khuaee ||
Without the True Guru, the Messenger of Death does not leave the mortal alone; he is ruined by the love of duality.
ਜੋਬਨੁ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਨਦਰਿ ਨ ਆਵਈ ਜਰੁ ਪਹੁਚੈ ਮਰਿ ਜਾਈ ॥
जोबनु जांदा नदरि न आवई जरु पहुचै मरि जाई ॥
Joban Jandha Nadhar N Avee Jar Pahuchai Mar Jaee ||
Youth slips away imperceptibly, old age comes, and then he dies.
ਪੁਤੁ ਕਲਤੁ ਮੋਹੁ ਹੇਤੁ ਹੈ ਅੰਤਿ ਬੇਲੀ ਕੋ ਨ ਸਖਾਈ ॥
पुतु कलतु मोहु हेतु है अंति बेली को न सखाई ॥
Puth Kalath Mohu Haeth Hai Anth Baelee Ko N Sakhaee ||
The mortal is caught in love and emotional attachment to children and spouse, but none of them will be his helper and support in the end.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੇ ਸੋ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ਨਾਉ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਆਈ ॥
सतिगुरु सेवे सो सुखु पाए नाउ वसै मनि आई ॥
Sathigur Saevae So Sukh Paeae Nao Vasai Man Aee ||
Whoever serves the True Guru finds peace; the Name comes to abide in the mind.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸੇ ਵਡੇ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਜਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਈ ॥੧੯॥
नानक से वडे वडभागी जि गुरमुखि नामि समाई ॥१९॥
Naanak Sae Vaddae Vaddabhagee J Guramukh Nam Samaee ||19||
O Nanak, great and very fortunate are those who, as Gurmukh, are absorbed in the Naam. ||19||
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਚੇਤਨੀ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਦੁਖ ਰੋਇ ॥
मनमुख नामु न चेतनी बिनु नावै दुख रोइ ॥
Manamukh Nam N Chaethanee Bin Navai Dhukh Roe ||
The self-willed manmukhs do not even think of the Name; without the Name, they cry in pain.
ਆਤਮਾ ਰਾਮੁ ਨ ਪੂਜਨੀ ਦੂਜੈ ਕਿਉ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
आतमा रामु न पूजनी दूजै किउ सुखु होइ ॥
Athama Ram N Poojanee Dhoojai Kio Sukh Hoe ||
They do not worship the Lord, the Supreme Soul; how can they find peace in duality?
ਹਉਮੈ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਮੈਲੁ ਹੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਨ ਕਾਢਹਿ ਧੋਇ ॥
हउमै अंतरि मैलु है सबदि न काढहि धोइ ॥
Houmai Anthar Mail Hai Sabadh N Kadtehi Dhhoe ||
They are filled with the filth of egotism; they do not wash it away with the Word of the Shabad.
ਨਾਨਕ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਮੈਲਿਆ ਮੁਏ ਜਨਮੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਖੋਇ ॥੨੦॥
नानक बिनु नावै मैलिआ मुए जनमु पदारथु खोइ ॥२०॥
Naanak Bin Navai Mailia Mueae Janam Padharathh Khoe ||20||
O Nanak, without the Name, they die in their filth; they waste the priceless opportunity of this human life. ||20||
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਬੋਲੇ ਅੰਧੁਲੇ ਤਿਸੁ ਮਹਿ ਅਗਨੀ ਕਾ ਵਾਸੁ ॥
मनमुख बोले अंधुले तिसु महि अगनी का वासु ॥
Manamukh Bolae Andhhulae This Mehi Aganee Ka Vas ||
The self-willed manmukhs are deaf and blind; they are filled with the fire of desire.
ਬਾਣੀ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਨ ਬੁਝਨੀ ਸਬਦਿ ਨ ਕਰਹਿ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸੁ ॥
बाणी सुरति न बुझनी सबदि न करहि प्रगासु ॥
Banee Surath N Bujhanee Sabadh N Karehi Pragas ||
They have no intuitive understanding of the Guru*s Bani; they are not illumined with the Shabad.
ਓਨਾ ਆਪਣੀ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਸੁਧਿ ਨਹੀ ਗੁਰ ਬਚਨਿ ਨ ਕਰਹਿ ਵਿਸਾਸੁ ॥
ओना आपणी अंदरि सुधि नही गुर बचनि न करहि विसासु ॥
Ouna Apanee Andhar Sudhh Nehee Gur Bachan N Karehi Visas ||
They do not know their own inner being, and they have no faith in the Guru*s Word.
ਗਿਆਨੀਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੁ ਹੈ ਨਿਤ ਹਰਿ ਲਿਵ ਸਦਾ ਵਿਗਾਸੁ ॥
गिआनीआ अंदरि गुर सबदु है नित हरि लिव सदा विगासु ॥
Gianeea Andhar Gur Sabadh Hai Nith Har Liv Sadha Vigas ||
The Word of the Guru*s Shabad is within the being of the spiritually wise ones. They always blossom in His love.
ਹਰਿ ਗਿਆਨੀਆ ਕੀ ਰਖਦਾ ਹਉ ਸਦ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ ਤਾਸੁ ॥
हरि गिआनीआ की रखदा हउ सद बलिहारी तासु ॥
Har Gianeea Kee Rakhadha Ho Sadh Baliharee Thas ||
The Lord saves the honor of the spiritually wise ones.I am forever a sacrifice to them.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜੋ ਹਰਿ ਸੇਵਦੇ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਤਾ ਕਾ ਦਾਸੁ ॥੨੧॥
गुरमुखि जो हरि सेवदे जन नानकु ता का दासु ॥२१॥
Guramukh Jo Har Saevadhae Jan Naanak Tha Ka Dhas ||21||
Servant Nanak is the slave of those Gurmukhs who serve the Lord. ||21||
ਮਾਇਆ ਭੁਇਅੰਗਮੁ ਸਰਪੁ ਹੈ ਜਗੁ ਘੇਰਿਆ ਬਿਖੁ ਮਾਇ ॥
माइआ भुइअंगमु सरपु है जगु घेरिआ बिखु माइ ॥
Maeia Bhueiangam Sarap Hai Jag Ghaeria Bikh Mae ||
The poisonous snake, the serpent of Maya, has surrounded the world with its coils, O mother!
ਬਿਖੁ ਕਾ ਮਾਰਣੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਹੈ ਗੁਰ ਗਰੁੜ ਸਬਦੁ ਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਇ ॥
बिखु का मारणु हरि नामु है गुर गरुड़ सबदु मुखि पाइ ॥
Bikh Ka Maran Har Nam Hai Gur Garurr Sabadh Mukh Pae ||
The antidote to this poisonous venom is the Name of the Lord; the Guru places the magic spell of the Shabad into the mouth.
ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਪੂਰਬਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਤਿਨ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਆਇ ॥
जिन कउ पूरबि लिखिआ तिन सतिगुरु मिलिआ आइ ॥
Jin Ko Poorab Likhia Thin Sathigur Milia Ae ||
Those who are blessed with such pre-ordained destiny come and meet the True Guru.
ਮਿਲਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਹੋਇਆ ਬਿਖੁ ਹਉਮੈ ਗਇਆ ਬਿਲਾਇ ॥
मिलि सतिगुर निरमलु होइआ बिखु हउमै गइआ बिलाइ ॥
Mil Sathigur Niramal Hoeia Bikh Houmai Gaeia Bilae ||
Meeting with the True Guru, they become immaculate, and the poison of egotism is eradicated.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾ ਕੇ ਮੁਖ ਉਜਲੇ ਹਰਿ ਦਰਗਹ ਸੋਭਾ ਪਾਇ ॥
गुरमुखा के मुख उजले हरि दरगह सोभा पाइ ॥
Guramukha Kae Mukh Oujalae Har Dharageh Sobha Pae ||
Radiant and bright are the faces of the Gurmukhs; they are honored in the Court of the Lord.
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਸਦਾ ਕੁਰਬਾਣੁ ਤਿਨ ਜੋ ਚਾਲਹਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਭਾਇ ॥੨੨॥
जन नानकु सदा कुरबाणु तिन जो चालहि सतिगुर भाइ ॥२२॥
Jan Naanak Sadha Kuraban Thin Jo Chalehi Sathigur Bhae ||22||
Servant Nanak is forever a sacrifice to those who walk in harmony with the Will of the True Guru. ||22||
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨਿਰਵੈਰੁ ਹੈ ਨਿਤ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਹਰਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥
सतिगुर पुरखु निरवैरु है नित हिरदै हरि लिव लाइ ॥
Sathigur Purakh Niravair Hai Nith Hiradhai Har Liv Lae ||
The True Guru, the Primal Being, has no hatred or vengeance. His heart is constantly attuned to the Lord.
ਨਿਰਵੈਰੈ ਨਾਲਿ ਵੈਰੁ ਰਚਾਇਦਾ ਅਪਣੈ ਘਰਿ ਲੂਕੀ ਲਾਇ ॥
निरवैरै नालि वैरु रचाइदा अपणै घरि लूकी लाइ ॥
Niravairai Nal Vair Rachaeidha Apanai Ghar Lookee Lae ||
Whoever directs hatred against the Guru, who has no hatred at all, only sets his own home on fire.
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੁ ਹੈ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਜਲੈ ਸਦਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਇ ॥
अंतरि क्रोधु अहंकारु है अनदिनु जलै सदा दुखु पाइ ॥
Anthar Krodhh Ahankar Hai Anadhin Jalai Sadha Dhukh Pae ||
Anger and egotism are within him night and day; he burns, and suffers constant pain.
ਕੂੜੁ ਬੋਲਿ ਬੋਲਿ ਨਿਤ ਭਉਕਦੇ ਬਿਖੁ ਖਾਧੇ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ॥
कूड़ु बोलि बोलि नित भउकदे बिखु खाधे दूजै भाइ ॥
Koorr Bol Bol Nith Bhoukadhae Bikh Khadhhae Dhoojai Bhae ||
They babble and tell lies, and keep on barking, eating the poison of the love of duality.
ਬਿਖੁ ਮਾਇਆ ਕਾਰਣਿ ਭਰਮਦੇ ਫਿਰਿ ਘਰਿ ਘਰਿ ਪਤਿ ਗਵਾਇ ॥
बिखु माइआ कारणि भरमदे फिरि घरि घरि पति गवाइ ॥
Bikh Maeia Karan Bharamadhae Fir Ghar Ghar Path Gavae ||
For the sake of the poison of Maya, they wander from house to house, and lose their honor.
ਬੇਸੁਆ ਕੇਰੇ ਪੂਤ ਜਿਉ ਪਿਤਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਤਿਸੁ ਜਾਇ ॥
बेसुआ केरे पूत जिउ पिता नामु तिसु जाइ ॥
Baesua Kaerae Pooth Jio Pitha Nam This Jae ||
They are like the son of a prostitute, who does not know the name of his father.
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਚੇਤਨੀ ਕਰਤੈ ਆਪਿ ਖੁਆਇ ॥
हरि हरि नामु न चेतनी करतै आपि खुआइ ॥
Har Har Nam N Chaethanee Karathai Ap Khuae ||
They do not remember the Name of the Lord, Har, Har; the Creator Himself brings them to ruin.
ਹਰਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰੀਅਨੁ ਜਨ ਵਿਛੁੜੇ ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥
हरि गुरमुखि किरपा धारीअनु जन विछुड़े आपि मिलाइ ॥
Har Guramukh Kirapa Dhhareean Jan Vishhurrae Ap Milae ||
The Lord showers His Mercy upon the Gurmukhs, and reunites the separated ones with Himself.
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਤਿਸੁ ਬਲਿਹਾਰਣੈ ਜੋ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਲਾਗੇ ਪਾਇ ॥੨੩॥
जन नानकु तिसु बलिहारणै जो सतिगुर लागे पाइ ॥२३॥
Jan Naanak This Baliharanai Jo Sathigur Lagae Pae ||23||
Servant Nanak is a sacrifice to those who fall at the Feet of the True Guru. ||23||
ਨਾਮਿ ਲਗੇ ਸੇ ਊਬਰੇ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਜਮ ਪੁਰਿ ਜਾਂਹਿ ॥
नामि लगे से ऊबरे बिनु नावै जम पुरि जांहि ॥
Nam Lagae Sae Oobarae Bin Navai Jam Pur Janhi ||
Those who are attached to the Naam, the Name of the Lord, are saved; without the Name, they must go to the City of Death.
ਨਾਨਕ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਨਹੀ ਆਇ ਗਏ ਪਛੁਤਾਹਿ ॥੨੪॥
नानक बिनु नावै सुखु नही आइ गए पछुताहि ॥२४॥
Naanak Bin Navai Sukh Nehee Ae Geae Pashhuthahi ||24||
O Nanak, without the Name, they find no peace; they come and go in reincarnation with regrets. ||24||
ਚਿੰਤਾ ਧਾਵਤ ਰਹਿ ਗਏ ਤਾਂ ਮਨਿ ਭਇਆ ਅਨੰਦੁ ॥
चिंता धावत रहि गए तां मनि भइआ अनंदु ॥
Chintha Dhhavath Rehi Geae Than Man Bhaeia Anandh ||
When anxiety and wanderings come to an end, the mind becomes happy.
ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦੀ ਬੁਝੀਐ ਸਾ ਧਨ ਸੁਤੀ ਨਿਚਿੰਦ ॥
गुर प्रसादी बुझीऐ सा धन सुती निचिंद ॥
Gur Prasadhee Bujheeai Sa Dhhan Suthee Nichindh ||
By Guru*s Grace, the soul-bride understands, and then she sleeps without worry.
ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਪੂਰਬਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਤਿਨ੍ਾ ਭੇਟਿਆ ਗੁਰ ਗੋਵਿੰਦੁ ॥
जिन कउ पूरबि लिखिआ तिन्ा भेटिआ गुर गोविंदु ॥
Jin Ko Poorab Likhia Thinha Bhaettia Gur Govindh ||
Those who have such pre-ordained destiny meet with the Guru, the Lord of the Universe.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਹਜੇ ਮਿਲਿ ਰਹੇ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਪਰਮਾਨੰਦੁ ॥੨੫॥
नानक सहजे मिलि रहे हरि पाइआ परमानंदु ॥२५॥
Naanak Sehajae Mil Rehae Har Paeia Paramanandh ||25||
O Nanak, they merge intuitively into the Lord, the Embodiment of Supreme Bliss. ||25||
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਨਿ ਆਪਣਾ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ॥
सतिगुरु सेवनि आपणा गुर सबदी वीचारि ॥
Sathigur Saevan Apana Gur Sabadhee Veechar ||
Those who serve their True Guru, who contemplate the Word of the Guru*s Shabad,
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਭਾਣਾ ਮੰਨਿ ਲੈਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਖਹਿ ਉਰ ਧਾਰਿ ॥
सतिगुर का भाणा मंनि लैनि हरि नामु रखहि उर धारि ॥
Sathigur Ka Bhana Mann Lain Har Nam Rakhehi Our Dhhar ||
Who honor and obey the Will of the True Guru, who keep the Lord*s Name enshrined within their hearts,
ਐਥੈ ਓਥੈ ਮੰਨੀਅਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਲਗੇ ਵਾਪਾਰਿ ॥
ऐथै ओथै मंनीअनि हरि नामि लगे वापारि ॥
Aithhai Outhhai Manneean Har Nam Lagae Vapar ||
Are honored, here and hereafter; they are dedicated to the business of the Lord*s Name.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਿਾਪਦੇ ਤਿਤੁ ਸਾਚੈ ਦਰਬਾਰਿ ॥
गुरमुखि सबदि सिापदे तितु साचै दरबारि ॥
Guramukh Sabadh Sinjapadhae Thith Sachai Dharabar ||
Through the Word of the Shabad, the Gurmukhs gain recognition in that Court of the True Lord.
ਸਚਾ ਸਉਦਾ ਖਰਚੁ ਸਚੁ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਪਿਰਮੁ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥
सचा सउदा खरचु सचु अंतरि पिरमु पिआरु ॥
Sacha Soudha Kharach Sach Anthar Piram Piar ||
The True Name is their merchandise, the True Name is their expenditure; the Love of their Beloved fills their inner beings.
ਜਮਕਾਲੁ ਨੇੜਿ ਨ ਆਵਈ ਆਪਿ ਬਖਸੇ ਕਰਤਾਰਿ ॥
जमकालु नेड़ि न आवई आपि बखसे करतारि ॥
Jamakal Naerr N Avee Ap Bakhasae Karathar ||
The Messenger of Death does not even approach them; the Creator Lord Himself forgives them.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮ ਰਤੇ ਸੇ ਧਨਵੰਤ ਹੈਨਿ ਨਿਰਧਨੁ ਹੋਰੁ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ॥੨੬॥
नानक नाम रते से धनवंत हैनि निरधनु होरु संसारु ॥२६॥
Naanak Nam Rathae Sae Dhhanavanth Hain Niradhhan Hor Sansar ||26||
O Nanak, they alone are wealthy, who are imbued with the Naam; the rest of the world is poor. ||26||
ਜਨ ਕੀ ਟੇਕ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਰਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਠਵਰ ਨ ਠਾਉ ॥
जन की टेक हरि नामु हरि बिनु नावै ठवर न ठाउ ॥
Jan Kee Ttaek Har Nam Har Bin Navai Thavar N Thao ||
The Lord*s Name is the Support of the Lord*s humble servants. Without the Lord*s Name, the there is no other place, no place of rest.
ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਨਾਉ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਸਹਜੇ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਉ ॥
गुरमती नाउ मनि वसै सहजे सहजि समाउ ॥
Guramathee Nao Man Vasai Sehajae Sehaj Samao ||
Following the Guru*s Teachings, the Name abides in the mind, and one is intuitively, automatically absorbed in the Lord.
ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਲਾਗਾ ਭਾਉ ॥
वडभागी नामु धिआइआ अहिनिसि लागा भाउ ॥
Vaddabhagee Nam Dhhiaeia Ahinis Laga Bhao ||
Those with great good fortune meditate on the Naam; night and day, they embrace love for the Name.
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਮੰਗੈ ਧੂੜਿ ਤਿਨ ਹਉ ਸਦ ਕੁਰਬਾਣੈ ਜਾਉ ॥੨੭॥
जन नानकु मंगै धूड़ि तिन हउ सद कुरबाणै जाउ ॥२७॥
Jan Naanak Mangai Dhhoorr Thin Ho Sadh Kurabanai Jao ||27||
Servant Nanak begs for the dust of their feet; I am forever a sacrifice to them. ||27||
ਲਖ ਚਉਰਾਸੀਹ ਮੇਦਨੀ ਤਿਸਨਾ ਜਲਤੀ ਕਰੇ ਪੁਕਾਰ ॥
लख चउरासीह मेदनी तिसना जलती करे पुकार ॥
Lakh Chouraseeh Maedhanee Thisana Jalathee Karae Pukar ||
The 8.4 million species of beings burn in desire and cry in pain.
ਇਹੁ ਮੋਹੁ ਮਾਇਆ ਸਭੁ ਪਸਰਿਆ ਨਾਲਿ ਚਲੈ ਨ ਅੰਤੀ ਵਾਰ ॥
इहु मोहु माइआ सभु पसरिआ नालि चलै न अंती वार ॥
Eihu Mohu Maeia Sabh Pasaria Nal Chalai N Anthee Var ||
All this show of emotional attachment to Maya shall not go with you at that very last instant.
ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਨ ਆਵਈ ਕਿਸੁ ਆਗੈ ਕਰੀ ਪੁਕਾਰ ॥
बिनु हरि सांति न आवई किसु आगै करी पुकार ॥
Bin Har Santh N Avee Kis Agai Karee Pukar ||
Without the Lord, peace and tranquility do not come; unto whom should we go and complain?
ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਬੂਝਿਆ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਬਿਚਾਰੁ ॥
वडभागी सतिगुरु पाइआ बूझिआ ब्रहमु बिचारु ॥
Vaddabhagee Sathigur Paeia Boojhia Breham Bichar ||
By great good fortune, one meets the True Guru, and comes to understand the contemplation of God.
ਤਿਸਨਾ ਅਗਨਿ ਸਭ ਬੁਝਿ ਗਈ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਉਰਿ ਧਾਰਿ ॥੨੮॥
तिसना अगनि सभ बुझि गई जन नानक हरि उरि धारि ॥२८॥
Thisana Agan Sabh Bujh Gee Jan Naanak Har Our Dhhar ||28||
The fire of desire is totally extinguished, O servant Nanak, enshrining the Lord within the heart. ||28||
ਅਸੀ ਖਤੇ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਕਮਾਵਦੇ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਰਾਵਾਰੁ ॥
असी खते बहुतु कमावदे अंतु न पारावारु ॥
Asee Khathae Bahuth Kamavadhae Anth N Paravar ||
I make so many mistakes, there is no end or limit to them.
ਹਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰਿ ਕੈ ਬਖਸਿ ਲੈਹੁ ਹਉ ਪਾਪੀ ਵਡ ਗੁਨਹਗਾਰੁ ॥
हरि किरपा करि कै बखसि लैहु हउ पापी वड गुनहगारु ॥
Har Kirapa Kar Kai Bakhas Laihu Ho Papee Vadd Gunehagar ||
O Lord, please be merciful and forgive me; I am a sinner, a great offender.
ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਲੇਖੈ ਵਾਰ ਨ ਆਵਈ ਤੂੰ ਬਖਸਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਹਾਰੁ ॥
हरि जीउ लेखै वार न आवई तूं बखसि मिलावणहारु ॥
Har Jeeo Laekhai Var N Avee Thoon Bakhas Milavanehar ||
O Dear Lord, if You made an account of my mistakes, my turn to be forgiven would not even come. Please forgive me, and unite me with Yourself.
ਗੁਰ ਤੁਠੈ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮੇਲਿਆ ਸਭ ਕਿਲਵਿਖ ਕਟਿ ਵਿਕਾਰ ॥
गुर तुठै हरि प्रभु मेलिआ सभ किलविख कटि विकार ॥
Gur Thuthai Har Prabh Maelia Sabh Kilavikh Katt Vikar ||
The Guru, in His Pleasure, has united me with the Lord God; He has cut away all my sinful mistakes.
ਜਿਨਾ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਨ੍ ਜੈਕਾਰੁ ॥੨੯॥
जिना हरि हरि नामु धिआइआ जन नानक तिन् जैकारु ॥२९॥
Jina Har Har Nam Dhhiaeia Jan Naanak Thinh Jaikar ||29||
Servant Nanak celebrates the victory of those who meditate on the Name of the Lord, Har, Har. ||29||
ਵਿਛੁੜਿ ਵਿਛੁੜਿ ਜੋ ਮਿਲੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੇ ਭੈ ਭਾਇ ॥
विछुड़ि विछुड़ि जो मिले सतिगुर के भै भाइ ॥
Vishhurr Vishhurr Jo Milae Sathigur Kae Bhai Bhae ||
Those who have been separated and alienated from the Lord are united with Him again, through the Fear and the Love of the True Guru.
ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਭਏ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇ ॥
जनम मरण निहचलु भए गुरमुखि नामु धिआइ ॥
Janam Maran Nihachal Bheae Guramukh Nam Dhhiae ||
They escape the cycle of birth and death, and, as Gurmukh, they meditate on the Naam, the Name of the Lord.
ਗੁਰ ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਹੀਰੇ ਰਤਨ ਲਭੰਨ੍ ਿ॥
गुर साधू संगति मिलै हीरे रतन लभंन् ि॥
Gur Sadhhoo Sangath Milai Heerae Rathan Labhannih ||
Joining the Saadh Sangat, the Guru*s Congregation, the diamonds and jewels are obtained.
ਨਾਨਕ ਲਾਲੁ ਅਮੋਲਕਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਖੋਜਿ ਲਹੰਨ੍ ਿ॥੩੦॥
नानक लालु अमोलका गुरमुखि खोजि लहंन् ि॥३०॥
Naanak Lal Amolaka Guramukh Khoj Lehannih ||30||
O Nanak, the jewel is priceless; the Gurmukhs seek and find it. ||30||
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਚੇਤਿਓ ਧਿਗੁ ਜੀਵਣੁ ਧਿਗੁ ਵਾਸੁ ॥
मनमुख नामु न चेतिओ धिगु जीवणु धिगु वासु ॥
Manamukh Nam N Chaethiou Dhhig Jeevan Dhhig Vas ||
The self-willed manmukhs do not even think of the Naam. Cursed are their lives, and cursed are their homes.
ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਦਿਤਾ ਖਾਣਾ ਪੈਨਣਾ ਸੋ ਮਨਿ ਨ ਵਸਿਓ ਗੁਣਤਾਸੁ ॥
जिस दा दिता खाणा पैनणा सो मनि न वसिओ गुणतासु ॥
Jis Dha Dhitha Khana Painana So Man N Vasiou Gunathas ||
That Lord who gives them so much to eat and wear - they do not enshrine that Lord, the Treasure of Virtue, in their minds.
ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਨ ਭੇਦਿਓ ਕਿਉ ਹੋਵੈ ਘਰ ਵਾਸੁ ॥
इहु मनु सबदि न भेदिओ किउ होवै घर वासु ॥
Eihu Man Sabadh N Bhaedhiou Kio Hovai Ghar Vas ||
This mind is not pierced by the Word of the Shabad; how can it come to dwell in its true home?
ਮਨਮੁਖੀਆ ਦੋਹਾਗਣੀ ਆਵਣ ਜਾਣਿ ਮੁਈਆਸੁ ॥
मनमुखीआ दोहागणी आवण जाणि मुईआसु ॥
Manamukheea Dhohaganee Avan Jan Mueeas ||
The self-willed manmukhs are like discarded brides, ruined by coming and going in the cycle of reincarnation.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸੁਹਾਗੁ ਹੈ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਮਣੀ ਲਿਖਿਆਸੁ ॥
गुरमुखि नामु सुहागु है मसतकि मणी लिखिआसु ॥
Guramukh Nam Suhag Hai Masathak Manee Likhias ||
The Gurmukhs are embellished and exalted by the Naam, the Name of the Lord; the jewel of destiny is engraved upon their foreheads.
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਉਰਿ ਧਾਰਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਕਮਲ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸੁ ॥
हरि हरि नामु उरि धारिआ हरि हिरदै कमल प्रगासु ॥
Har Har Nam Our Dhharia Har Hiradhai Kamal Pragas ||
They enshrine the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, within their hearts; the Lord illumines their heart-lotus.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਨਿ ਆਪਣਾ ਹਉ ਸਦ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ ਤਾਸੁ ॥
सतिगुरु सेवनि आपणा हउ सद बलिहारी तासु ॥
Sathigur Saevan Apana Ho Sadh Baliharee Thas ||
I am forever a sacrifice to those who serve their True Guru.
ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਨ ਮੁਖ ਉਜਲੇ ਜਿਨ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸੁ ॥੩੧॥
नानक तिन मुख उजले जिन अंतरि नामु प्रगासु ॥३१॥
Naanak Thin Mukh Oujalae Jin Anthar Nam Pragas ||31||
O Nanak, radiant and bright are the faces of those whose inner beings are illuminated with the Light of the Naam. ||31||
ਸਬਦਿ ਮਰੈ ਸੋਈ ਜਨੁ ਸਿਝੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥
सबदि मरै सोई जनु सिझै बिनु सबदै मुकति न होई ॥
Sabadh Marai Soee Jan Sijhai Bin Sabadhai Mukath N Hoee ||
Those who die in the Word of the Shabad are saved. Without the Shabad, no one is liberated.
ਭੇਖ ਕਰਹਿ ਬਹੁ ਕਰਮ ਵਿਗੁਤੇ ਭਾਇ ਦੂਜੈ ਪਰਜ ਵਿਗੋਈ ॥
भेख करहि बहु करम विगुते भाइ दूजै परज विगोई ॥
Bhaekh Karehi Bahu Karam Viguthae Bhae Dhoojai Paraj Vigoee ||
They wear religious robes and perform all sorts of rituals, but they are ruined; in the love of duality, their world is ruined.
ਨਾਨਕ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਨਾਉ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਜੇ ਸਉ ਲੋਚੈ ਕੋਈ ॥੩੨॥
नानक बिनु सतिगुर नाउ न पाईऐ जे सउ लोचै कोई ॥३२॥
Naanak Bin Sathigur Nao N Paeeai Jae So Lochai Koee ||32||
O Nanak, without the True Guru, the Name is not obtained, even though one may long for it hundreds of times. ||32||
ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਉ ਅਤਿ ਵਡ ਊਚਾ ਊਚੀ ਹੂ ਊਚਾ ਹੋਈ ॥
हरि का नाउ अति वड ऊचा ऊची हू ऊचा होई ॥
Har Ka Nao Ath Vadd Oocha Oochee Hoo Oocha Hoee ||
The Name of the Lord is utterly great, lofty and high, the highest of the high.
ਅਪੜਿ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਸਕਈ ਜੇ ਸਉ ਲੋਚੈ ਕੋਈ ॥
अपड़ि कोइ न सकई जे सउ लोचै कोई ॥
Aparr Koe N Sakee Jae So Lochai Koee ||
No one can climb up to it, even though one may long for it, hundreds of times.
ਮੁਖਿ ਸੰਜਮ ਹਛਾ ਨ ਹੋਵਈ ਕਰਿ ਭੇਖ ਭਵੈ ਸਭ ਕੋਈ ॥
मुखि संजम हछा न होवई करि भेख भवै सभ कोई ॥
Mukh Sanjam Hashha N Hovee Kar Bhaekh Bhavai Sabh Koee ||
Speaking about self-discipline, no one become pure; everyone walks around wearing religious robes.
ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਪਉੜੀ ਜਾਇ ਚੜੈ ਕਰਮਿ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਹੋਈ ॥
गुर की पउड़ी जाइ चड़ै करमि परापति होई ॥
Gur Kee Pourree Jae Charrai Karam Parapath Hoee ||
Those blessed by the karma of good deeds go and climb the ladder of the Guru.
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਆਇ ਵਸੈ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੁ ਵੀਚਾਰੈ ਕੋਇ ॥
अंतरि आइ वसै गुर सबदु वीचारै कोइ ॥
Anthar Ae Vasai Gur Sabadh Veecharai Koe ||
The Lord comes and dwells within that one who contemplates the Word of the Guru*s Shabad.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਰੈ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨੀਐ ਸਾਚੇ ਸਾਚੀ ਸੋਇ ॥੩੩॥
नानक सबदि मरै मनु मानीऐ साचे साची सोइ ॥३३॥
Naanak Sabadh Marai Man Maneeai Sachae Sachee Soe ||33||
O Nanak, when someone dies in the Word of the Shabad, the mind is pleased and appeased. True is the reputation of those who are true. ||33||
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਹੈ ਬਿਖੁ ਦੁਤਰੁ ਤਰਿਆ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
माइआ मोहु दुखु सागरु है बिखु दुतरु तरिआ न जाइ ॥
Maeia Mohu Dhukh Sagar Hai Bikh Dhuthar Tharia N Jae ||
Emotional attachment to Maya is a treacherous ocean of pain and poison, which cannot be crossed.
ਮੇਰਾ ਮੇਰਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਪਚਿ ਮੁਏ ਹਉਮੈ ਕਰਤ ਵਿਹਾਇ ॥
मेरा मेरा करदे पचि मुए हउमै करत विहाइ ॥
Maera Maera Karadhae Pach Mueae Houmai Karath Vihae ||
Screaming, ****Mine, mine!****, they rot and die; they pass their lives in egotism.
ਮਨਮੁਖਾ ਉਰਵਾਰੁ ਨ ਪਾਰੁ ਹੈ ਅਧ ਵਿਚਿ ਰਹੇ ਲਪਟਾਇ ॥
मनमुखा उरवारु न पारु है अध विचि रहे लपटाइ ॥
Manamukha Ouravar N Par Hai Adhh Vich Rehae Lapattae ||
The self-willed manmukhs are in limbo, neither on this side, nor the other; they are stuck in the middle.
ਜੋ ਧੁਰਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਸੁ ਕਮਾਵਣਾ ਕਰਣਾ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
जो धुरि लिखिआ सु कमावणा करणा कछू न जाइ ॥
Jo Dhhur Likhia S Kamavana Karana Kashhoo N Jae ||
They act as they are pre-destined; they cannot do anything else.
ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਰਤਨੁ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਸਭੁ ਦੇਖਿਆ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥
गुरमती गिआनु रतनु मनि वसै सभु देखिआ ब्रहमु सुभाइ ॥
Guramathee Gian Rathan Man Vasai Sabh Dhaekhia Breham Subhae ||
Following the Guru*s Teachings, the jewel of spiritual wisdom abides in the mind, and then God is easily seen in all.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਬੋਹਿਥੈ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਚੜੈ ਤੇ ਭਉਜਲਿ ਪਾਰਿ ਲੰਘਾਇ ॥੩੪॥
नानक सतिगुरि बोहिथै वडभागी चड़ै ते भउजलि पारि लंघाइ ॥३४॥
Naanak Sathigur Bohithhai Vaddabhagee Charrai Thae Bhoujal Par Langhae ||34||
O Nanak, the very fortunate ones embark on the Boat of the True Guru; they are carried across the terrifying world-ocean. ||34||
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਦਾਤਾ ਕੋ ਨਹੀ ਜੋ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦੇਇ ਆਧਾਰੁ ॥
बिनु सतिगुर दाता को नही जो हरि नामु देइ आधारु ॥
Bin Sathigur Dhatha Ko Nehee Jo Har Nam Dhaee Adhhar ||
Without the True Guru, there is no giver who can bestow the Support of the Lord*s Name.
ਹਰਿ ਦਰਗਹਿ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਿਾਪੈ ॥
हरि दरगहि गुर सबदि सिापै ॥
Har Dharagehi Gur Sabadh Sinjapai ||
Through the Word of the Guru*s Shabad, he is recognized in the Court of the Lord.
ਨਾਨਕ ਕਰਤਾ ਕਰੇ ਸੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੪੩॥
नानक करता करे सु होइ ॥४३॥
Naanak Karatha Karae S Hoe ||43||
O Nanak, whatever the Creator Lord does, comes to pass. ||43||
ਬੁਰਾ ਕਰੇ ਸੁ ਕੇਹਾ ਸਿਝੈ ॥
बुरा करे सु केहा सिझै ॥
Bura Karae S Kaeha Sijhai ||
How can someone do bad things, and still live with himself?
ਗੁਰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਨਾਉ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਸਦਾ ਰਹੈ ਉਰਿ ਧਾਰਿ ॥
गुर किरपा ते नाउ मनि वसै सदा रहै उरि धारि ॥
Gur Kirapa Thae Nao Man Vasai Sadha Rehai Our Dhhar ||
By Guru*s Grace, the Name comes to dwell in the mind; keep it enshrined in your heart.
ਤਿਸਨਾ ਬੁਝੈ ਤਿਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ਹਰਿ ਕੈ ਨਾਇ ਪਿਆਰਿ ॥
तिसना बुझै तिपति होइ हरि कै नाइ पिआरि ॥
Thisana Bujhai Thipath Hoe Har Kai Nae Piar ||
The fire of desire is extinguished, and one finds satisfaction, through the Love of the Name of the Lord.
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਹਰਿ ਅਪਨੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰਿ ॥੩੫॥
नानक गुरमुखि पाईऐ हरि अपनी किरपा धारि ॥३५॥
Naanak Guramukh Paeeai Har Apanee Kirapa Dhhar ||35||
नानक गुरमुखि पाईऐ हरि अपनी किरपा धारि ॥३५॥
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ ਜਗਤੁ ਬਰਲਿਆ ਕਹਣਾ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
बिनु सबदै जगतु बरलिआ कहणा कछू न जाइ ॥
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ ਜਗਤੁ ਬਰਲਿਆ ਕਹਣਾ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
Without the Shabad, the world is so insane, that it cannot even be described.
ਹਰਿ ਰਖੇ ਸੇ ਉਬਰੇ ਸਬਦਿ ਰਹੇ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥
हरि रखे से उबरे सबदि रहे लिव लाइ ॥
Har Rakhae Sae Oubarae Sabadh Rehae Liv Lae ||
Those who are protected by the Lord are saved; they remain lovingly attuned to the Word of the Shabad.
ਨਾਨਕ ਕਰਤਾ ਸਭ ਕਿਛੁ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਜਿਨਿ ਰਖੀ ਬਣਤ ਬਣਾਇ ॥੩੬॥
नानक करता सभ किछु जाणदा जिनि रखी बणत बणाइ ॥३६॥
Naanak Karatha Sabh Kishh Janadha Jin Rakhee Banath Banae ||36||
O Nanak, the Creator who made this making knows everything. ||36||
ਹੋਮ ਜਗ ਸਭਿ ਤੀਰਥਾ ਪੜ੍ ਿਪੰਡਿਤ ਥਕੇ ਪੁਰਾਣ ॥
होम जग सभि तीरथा पड़् िपंडित थके पुराण ॥
Hom Jag Sabh Theerathha Parrih Panddith Thhakae Puran ||
The Pandits, the religious scholars, have grown weary of making fire-offerings and sacrifices, making pilgrimages to all the sacred shrines, and reading the Puraanas.
ਬਿਖੁ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਨ ਮਿਟਈ ਵਿਚਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਆਵਣੁ ਜਾਣੁ ॥
बिखु माइआ मोहु न मिटई विचि हउमै आवणु जाणु ॥
ਬਿਖੁ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਨ ਮਿਟਈ ਵਿਚਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਆਵਣੁ ਜਾਣੁ ॥
But they cannot get rid of the poison of emotional attachment to Maya; they continue to come and go in egotism.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਮਲੁ ਉਤਰੀ ਹਰਿ ਜਪਿਆ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਸੁਜਾਣੁ ॥
सतिगुर मिलिऐ मलु उतरी हरि जपिआ पुरखु सुजाणु ॥
Sathigur Miliai Mal Outharee Har Japia Purakh Sujan ||
Meeting with the True Guru, one*s filth is washed off, meditating on the Lord, the Primal Being, the All-knowing One.
ਜਿਨਾ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸੇਵਿਆ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਸਦ ਕੁਰਬਾਣੁ ॥੩੭॥
जिना हरि हरि प्रभु सेविआ जन नानकु सद कुरबाणु ॥३७॥
Jina Har Har Prabh Saevia Jan Naanak Sadh Kuraban ||37||
Servant Nanak is forever a sacrifice to those who serve their Lord God. ||37||
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਬਹੁ ਚਿਤਵਦੇ ਬਹੁ ਆਸਾ ਲੋਭੁ ਵਿਕਾਰ ॥
माइआ मोहु बहु चितवदे बहु आसा लोभु विकार ॥
Maeia Mohu Bahu Chithavadhae Bahu Asa Lobh Vikar ||
Mortals give great thought to Maya and emotional attachment; they harbor great hopes, in greed and corruption.
ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਅਸਥਿਰੁ ਨਾ ਥੀਐ ਮਰਿ ਬਿਨਸਿ ਜਾਇ ਖਿਨ ਵਾਰ ॥
मनमुखि असथिरु ना थीऐ मरि बिनसि जाइ खिन वार ॥
Manamukh Asathhir Na Thheeai Mar Binas Jae Khin Var ||
The self-willed manmukhs do not become steady and stable; they die and are gone in an instant.
ਵਡ ਭਾਗੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਤਜੈ ਵਿਕਾਰ ॥
वड भागु होवै सतिगुरु मिलै हउमै तजै विकार ॥
Vadd Bhag Hovai Sathigur Milai Houmai Thajai Vikar ||
Only those who are blessed with great good fortune meet the True Guru, and leave behind their egotism and corruption.
ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਕਮਲਾ ਰਗੜੈ ਲੁਝੈ ॥
मनमुखि कमला रगड़ै लुझै ॥
Manamukh Kamala Ragarrai Lujhai ||
The self-willed manmukh drives himself crazy with worries and stubborn struggles.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਇ ਤਿਸੁ ਸਭ ਕਿਛੁ ਸੁਝੈ ॥
गुरमुखि होइ तिसु सभ किछु सुझै ॥
Guramukh Hoe This Sabh Kishh Sujhai ||
But those who become Gurmukh understand everything.
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮਨ ਸਿਉ ਲੁਝੈ ॥੪੬॥
नानक गुरमुखि मन सिउ लुझै ॥४६॥
Naanak Guramukh Man Sio Lujhai ||46||
O Nanak, the Gurmukh struggles with his own mind. ||46||
ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਾ ਜਪਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਬਦੁ ਵੀਚਾਰ ॥੩੮॥
हरि नामा जपि सुखु पाइआ जन नानक सबदु वीचार ॥३८॥
Har Nama Jap Sukh Paeia Jan Naanak Sabadh Veechar ||38||
Chanting the Name of the Lord, they find peace; servant Nanak contemplates the Word of the Shabad. ||38||
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਭਗਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਵਈ ਨਾਮਿ ਨ ਲਗੈ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥
बिनु सतिगुर भगति न होवई नामि न लगै पिआरु ॥
Bin Sathigur Bhagath N Hovee Nam N Lagai Piar ||
Without the True Guru, there is no devotional worship, and no love of the Naam, the Name of the Lord.
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਰਾਧਿਆ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਹੇਤਿ ਪਿਆਰਿ ॥੩੯॥
जन नानक नामु अराधिआ गुर कै हेति पिआरि ॥३९॥
Jan Naanak Nam Aradhhia Gur Kai Haeth Piar ||39||
Servant Nanak worships and adores the Naam, with love and affection for the Guru. ||39||
ਲੋਭੀ ਕਾ ਵੇਸਾਹੁ ਨ ਕੀਜੈ ਜੇ ਕਾ ਪਾਰਿ ਵਸਾਇ ॥
लोभी का वेसाहु न कीजै जे का पारि वसाइ ॥
Lobhee Ka Vaesahu N Keejai Jae Ka Par Vasae ||
Do not trust greedy people, if you can avoid doing so.
ਅੰਤਿ ਕਾਲਿ ਤਿਥੈ ਧੁਹੈ ਜਿਥੈ ਹਥੁ ਨ ਪਾਇ ॥
अंति कालि तिथै धुहै जिथै हथु न पाइ ॥
Anth Kal Thithhai Dhhuhai Jithhai Hathh N Pae ||
At the very last moment, they will deceive you there, where no one will be able to lend a helping hand.
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਸੇਤੀ ਸੰਗੁ ਕਰੇ ਮੁਹਿ ਕਾਲਖ ਦਾਗੁ ਲਗਾਇ ॥
मनमुख सेती संगु करे मुहि कालख दागु लगाइ ॥
Manamukh Saethee Sang Karae Muhi Kalakh Dhag Lagae ||
Whoever associates with the self-willed manmukhs, will have his face blackened and dirtied.
ਮੁਹ ਕਾਲੇ ਤਿਨ੍ ਲੋਭੀਆਂ ਜਾਸਨਿ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇ ॥
मुह काले तिन् लोभीआं जासनि जनमु गवाइ ॥
Muh Kalae Thinh Lobheeaan Jasan Janam Gavae ||
Black are the faces of those greedy people; they lose their lives, and leave in disgrace.
ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਮੇਲਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ॥
सतसंगति हरि मेलि प्रभ हरि नामु वसै मनि आइ ॥
Sathasangath Har Mael Prabh Har Nam Vasai Man Ae ||
O Lord, let me join the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation; may the Name of the Lord God abide in my mind.
ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਕੀ ਮਲੁ ਉਤਰੈ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਇ ॥੪੦॥
जनम मरन की मलु उतरै जन नानक हरि गुन गाइ ॥४०॥
Janam Maran Kee Mal Outharai Jan Naanak Har Gun Gae ||40||
The filth and pollution of birth and death is washed away, O servant Nanak, singing the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||40||
ਧੁਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਕਰਤੈ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਸੁ ਮੇਟਣਾ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
धुरि हरि प्रभि करतै लिखिआ सु मेटणा न जाइ ॥
Dhhur Har Prabh Karathai Likhia S Maettana N Jae ||
Whatever is pre-destined by the Lord God Creator, cannot be erased.
ਜੀਉ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਸਭੁ ਤਿਸ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲਿ ਕਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਇ ॥
जीउ पिंडु सभु तिस दा प्रतिपालि करे हरि राइ ॥
Jeeo Pindd Sabh This Dha Prathipal Karae Har Rae ||
Body and soul are all His. The Sovereign Lord King cherishes all.
ਚੁਗਲ ਨਿੰਦਕ ਭੁਖੇ ਰੁਲਿ ਮੁਏ ਏਨਾ ਹਥੁ ਨ ਕਿਥਾਊ ਪਾਇ ॥
चुगल निंदक भुखे रुलि मुए एना हथु न किथाऊ पाइ ॥
Chugal Nindhak Bhukhae Rul Mueae Eaena Hathh N Kithhaoo Pae ||
The gossipers and slanderers shall remain hungry and die, rolling in the dust; their hands cannot reach anywhere.
ਬਾਹਰਿ ਪਾਖੰਡ ਸਭ ਕਰਮ ਕਰਹਿ ਮਨਿ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਕਪਟੁ ਕਮਾਇ ॥
बाहरि पाखंड सभ करम करहि मनि हिरदै कपटु कमाइ ॥
Bahar Pakhandd Sabh Karam Karehi Man Hiradhai Kapatt Kamae ||
Outwardly, they do all the proper deeds, but they are hypocrites; in their minds and hearts, they practice deception and fraud.
ਖੇਤਿ ਸਰੀਰਿ ਜੋ ਬੀਜੀਐ ਸੋ ਅੰਤਿ ਖਲੋਆ ਆਇ ॥
खेति सरीरि जो बीजीऐ सो अंति खलोआ आइ ॥
Khaeth Sareer Jo Beejeeai So Anth Khaloa Ae ||
Whatever is planted in the farm of the body, shall come and stand before them in the end.
ਨਾਨਕ ਕੀ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਹਰਿ ਭਾਵੈ ਬਖਸਿ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥੪੧॥
नानक की प्रभ बेनती हरि भावै बखसि मिलाइ ॥४१॥
Naanak Kee Prabh Baenathee Har Bhavai Bakhas Milae ||41||
Nanak offers this prayer: O Lord God, please forgive me, and unite me with Yourself. ||41||
ਮਨ ਆਵਣ ਜਾਣੁ ਨ ਸੁਝਈ ਨਾ ਸੁਝੈ ਦਰਬਾਰੁ ॥
मन आवण जाणु न सुझई ना सुझै दरबारु ॥
Man Avan Jan N Sujhee Na Sujhai Dharabar ||
The mortal being does not understand the comings and goings of reincarnation; he does not see the Court of the Lord.
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਪਲੇਟਿਆ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਅਗਿਆਨੁ ਗੁਬਾਰੁ ॥
माइआ मोहि पलेटिआ अंतरि अगिआनु गुबारु ॥
Maeia Mohi Palaettia Anthar Agian Gubar ||
He is wrapped up in emotional attachment and Maya, and within his being is the darkness of ignorance.
ਤਬ ਨਰੁ ਸੁਤਾ ਜਾਗਿਆ ਸਿਰਿ ਡੰਡੁ ਲਗਾ ਬਹੁ ਭਾਰੁ ॥
तब नरु सुता जागिआ सिरि डंडु लगा बहु भारु ॥
Thab Nar Sutha Jagia Sir Ddandd Laga Bahu Bhar ||
The sleeping person wakes, only when he is hit on the head by a heavy club.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਕਰਾਂ ਉਪਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਚੇਤਿਆ ਸੇ ਪਾਇਨਿ ਮੋਖ ਦੁਆਰੁ ॥
गुरमुखां करां उपरि हरि चेतिआ से पाइनि मोख दुआरु ॥
Guramukhan Karan Oupar Har Chaethia Sae Paein Mokh Dhuar ||
The Gurmukhs dwell upon the Lord; they find the door of salvation.
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਪਿ ਓਹਿ ਉਧਰੇ ਸਭ ਕੁਟੰਬ ਤਰੇ ਪਰਵਾਰ ॥੪੨॥
नानक आपि ओहि उधरे सभ कुटंब तरे परवार ॥४२॥
Naanak Ap Ouhi Oudhharae Sabh Kuttanb Tharae Paravar ||42||
O Nanak, they themselves are saved, and all their relatives are carried across as well. ||42||
ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਚੇਤਹਿ ਅੰਤਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਰੋਇ ॥
हरि नामु न चेतहि अंति दुखु रोइ ॥
Har Nam N Chaethehi Anth Dhukh Roe ||
Those who do not remember the Name of the Lord, shall cry in pain in the end.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬੁਢੇ ਕਦੇ ਨਾਹੀ ਜਿਨ੍ਾ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਗਿਆਨੁ ॥
गुरमुखि बुढे कदे नाही जिन्ा अंतरि सुरति गिआनु ॥
Guramukh Budtae Kadhae Nahee Jinha Anthar Surath Gian ||
The Gurmukhs never grow old; within them is intuitive understanding and spiritual wisdom.
ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਰਵਹਿ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਹਜ ਧਿਆਨੁ ॥
सदा सदा हरि गुण रवहि अंतरि सहज धिआनु ॥
Sadha Sadha Har Gun Ravehi Anthar Sehaj Dhhian ||
They chant the Praises of the Lord, forever and ever; deep within, they intuitively meditate on the Lord.
ਓਇ ਸਦਾ ਅਨੰਦਿ ਬਿਬੇਕ ਰਹਹਿ ਦੁਖਿ ਸੁਖਿ ਏਕ ਸਮਾਨਿ ॥
ओइ सदा अनंदि बिबेक रहहि दुखि सुखि एक समानि ॥
Oue Sadha Anandh Bibaek Rehehi Dhukh Sukh Eaek Saman ||
They dwell forever in blissful knowledge of the Lord; they look upon pain and pleasure as one and the same.
ਤਿਨਾ ਨਦਰੀ ਇਕੋ ਆਇਆ ਸਭੁ ਆਤਮ ਰਾਮੁ ਪਛਾਨੁ ॥੪੪॥
तिना नदरी इको आइआ सभु आतम रामु पछानु ॥४४॥
Thina Nadharee Eiko Aeia Sabh Atham Ram Pashhan ||44||
They see the One Lord in all, and realize the Lord, the Supreme Soul of all. ||44||
ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਬਾਲਕੁ ਬਿਰਧਿ ਸਮਾਨਿ ਹੈ ਜਿਨ੍ਾ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਨਾਹੀ ॥
मनमुखु बालकु बिरधि समानि है जिन्ा अंतरि हरि सुरति नाही ॥
Manamukh Balak Biradhh Saman Hai Jinha Anthar Har Surath Nahee ||
The self-willed manmukhs are like stupid children; they do not keep the Lord in their thoughts.
ਵਿਚਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਵਦੇ ਸਭ ਧਰਮ ਰਾਇ ਕੈ ਜਾਂਹੀ ॥
विचि हउमै करम कमावदे सभ धरम राइ कै जांही ॥
Vich Houmai Karam Kamavadhae Sabh Dhharam Rae Kai Janhee ||
They do all their deeds in egotism, and they must answer to the Righteous Judge of Dharma.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਛੇ ਨਿਰਮਲੇ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥
गुरमुखि हछे निरमले गुर कै सबदि सुभाइ ॥
Guramukh Hashhae Niramalae Gur Kai Sabadh Subhae ||
The Gurmukhs are good and immaculately pure; they are embellished and exalted with the Word of the Guru*s Shabad.
ਓਨਾ ਮੈਲੁ ਪਤੰਗੁ ਨ ਲਗਈ ਜਿ ਚਲਨਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਭਾਇ ॥
ओना मैलु पतंगु न लगई जि चलनि सतिगुर भाइ ॥
Ouna Mail Pathang N Lagee J Chalan Sathigur Bhae ||
Not even a tiny bit of filth sticks to them; they walk in harmony with the Will of the True Guru.
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਜੂਠਿ ਨ ਉਤਰੈ ਜੇ ਸਉ ਧੋਵਣ ਪਾਇ ॥
मनमुख जूठि न उतरै जे सउ धोवण पाइ ॥
Manamukh Jooth N Outharai Jae So Dhhovan Pae ||
The filth of the manmukhs is not washed away, even if they wash hundreds of times.
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮੇਲਿਅਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਅੰਕਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੪੫॥
नानक गुरमुखि मेलिअनु गुर कै अंकि समाइ ॥४५॥
Naanak Guramukh Maelian Gur Kai Ank Samae ||45||
O Nanak, the Gurmukhs are united with the Lord; they merge into the Guru*s Being. ||45||
ਜਿਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨ ਸੇਵਿਓ ਸਬਦਿ ਨ ਕੀਤੋ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥
जिना सतिगुरु पुरखु न सेविओ सबदि न कीतो वीचारु ॥
Jina Sathigur Purakh N Saeviou Sabadh N Keetho Veechar ||
Those who do not serve the True Guru, the Primal Being, and do not reflect upon the Word of the Shabad
ਓਇ ਮਾਣਸ ਜੂਨਿ ਨ ਆਖੀਅਨਿ ਪਸੂ ਢੋਰ ਗਾਵਾਰ ॥
ओइ माणस जूनि न आखीअनि पसू ढोर गावार ॥
Oue Manas Joon N Akheean Pasoo Dtor Gavar ||
- do not call them human beings; they are just animals and stupid beasts.
ਓਨਾ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਨ ਧਿਆਨੁ ਹੈ ਹਰਿ ਸਉ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਨ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥
ओना अंतरि गिआनु न धिआनु है हरि सउ प्रीति न पिआरु ॥
Ouna Anthar Gian N Dhhian Hai Har So Preeth N Piar ||
They have no spiritual wisdom or meditation within their beings; they are not in love with the Lord.
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮੁਏ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਮਹਿ ਮਰਿ ਜੰਮਹਿ ਵਾਰੋ ਵਾਰ ॥
मनमुख मुए विकार महि मरि जंमहि वारो वार ॥
Manamukh Mueae Vikar Mehi Mar Janmehi Varo Var ||
The self-willed manmukhs die in evil and corruption; they die and are reborn, again and again.
ਜੀਵਦਿਆ ਨੋ ਮਿਲੈ ਸੁ ਜੀਵਦੇ ਹਰਿ ਜਗਜੀਵਨ ਉਰ ਧਾਰਿ ॥
जीवदिआ नो मिलै सु जीवदे हरि जगजीवन उर धारि ॥
Jeevadhia No Milai S Jeevadhae Har Jagajeevan Our Dhhar ||
They alone live, who join with the living; enshrine the Lord, the Lord of Life, within your heart.
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਤਿਤੁ ਸਚੈ ਦਰਬਾਰਿ ॥੪੭॥
नानक गुरमुखि सोहणे तितु सचै दरबारि ॥४७॥
Naanak Guramukh Sohanae Thith Sachai Dharabar ||47||
O Nanak, the Gurmukhs look beautiful in that Court of the True Lord. ||47||
ਹਰਿ ਮੰਦਰੁ ਹਰਿ ਸਾਜਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਵਸੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਨਾਲਿ ॥
हरि मंदरु हरि साजिआ हरि वसै जिसु नालि ॥
Har Mandhar Har Sajia Har Vasai Jis Nal ||
The Lord built the Harimandir, the Temple of the Lord; the Lord dwells within it.
ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹ ਪਰਜਾਲਿ ॥
गुरमती हरि पाइआ माइआ मोह परजालि ॥
Guramathee Har Paeia Maeia Moh Parajal ||
Following the Guru*s Teachings, I have found the Lord; my emotional attachment to Maya has been burnt away.
ਹਰਿ ਮੰਦਰਿ ਵਸਤੁ ਅਨੇਕ ਹੈ ਨਵ ਨਿਧਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਮਾਲਿ ॥
हरि मंदरि वसतु अनेक है नव निधि नामु समालि ॥
Har Mandhar Vasath Anaek Hai Nav Nidhh Nam Samal ||
Countless things are in the Harimandir, the Temple of the Lord; contemplate the Naam, and the nine treasures will be yours.
ਧਨੁ ਭਗਵੰਤੀ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਜਿਨਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਲਧਾ ਹਰਿ ਭਾਲਿ ॥
धनु भगवंती नानका जिना गुरमुखि लधा हरि भालि ॥
ਧਨੁ ਭਗਵੰਤੀ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਜਿਨਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਲਧਾ ਹਰਿ ਭਾਲਿ ॥
Blessed is that happy soul-bride, O Nanak, who, as Gurmukh, seeks and finds the Lord.
ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਗੜ ਮੰਦਰੁ ਖੋਜਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਪਾਇਆ ਨਾਲਿ ॥੪੮॥
वडभागी गड़ मंदरु खोजिआ हरि हिरदै पाइआ नालि ॥४८॥
Vaddabhagee Garr Mandhar Khojia Har Hiradhai Paeia Nal ||48||
By great good fortune, one searches the temple of the body-fortress, and finds the Lord within the heart. ||48||
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਦਹ ਦਿਸਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਰਹੇ ਅਤਿ ਤਿਸਨਾ ਲੋਭ ਵਿਕਾਰ ॥
मनमुख दह दिसि फिरि रहे अति तिसना लोभ विकार ॥
Manamukh Dheh Dhis Fir Rehae Ath Thisana Lobh Vikar ||
The self-willed manmukhs wander lost in the ten directions, led by intense desire, greed and corruption.
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਨ ਚੁਕਈ ਮਰਿ ਜੰਮਹਿ ਵਾਰੋ ਵਾਰ ॥
माइआ मोहु न चुकई मरि जंमहि वारो वार ॥
Maeia Mohu N Chukee Mar Janmehi Varo Var ||
Their attachment to Maya does not cease; they die, only to be reborn, over and over again.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਅਤਿ ਤਿਸਨਾ ਤਜਿ ਵਿਕਾਰ ॥
सतिगुरु सेवि सुखु पाइआ अति तिसना तजि विकार ॥

जनम मरन का दुखु गइआ जन नानक सबदु बीचारि ॥४९॥
Janam Maran Ka Dhukh Gaeia Jan Naanak Sabadh Beechar ||49||
The pains of death and birth are taken away; servant Nanak reflects upon the Word of the Shabad. ||49||
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇ ਮਨ ਹਰਿ ਦਰਗਹ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਮਾਨੁ ॥
हरि हरि नामु धिआइ मन हरि दरगह पावहि मानु ॥
Har Har Nam Dhhiae Man Har Dharageh Pavehi Man ||
Meditate on the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, O mortal being, and you shall be honored in the Court of the Lord.
ਕਿਲਵਿਖ ਪਾਪ ਸਭਿ ਕਟੀਅਹਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਚੁਕੈ ਗੁਮਾਨੁ ॥
किलविख पाप सभि कटीअहि हउमै चुकै गुमानु ॥
Kilavikh Pap Sabh Katteeahi Houmai Chukai Guman ||
All your sins and terrible mistakes shall be taken away, and you shall be rid of your pride and egotism.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਕਮਲੁ ਵਿਗਸਿਆ ਸਭੁ ਆਤਮ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਪਛਾਨੁ ॥
गुरमुखि कमलु विगसिआ सभु आतम ब्रहमु पछानु ॥
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਕਮਲੁ ਵਿਗਸਿਆ ਸਭੁ ਆਤਮ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਪਛਾਨੁ ॥
The heart-lotus of the Gurmukh blossoms forth, realizing God, the Soul of all.
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਪਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ॥੫੦॥

धनासरी धनवंती जाणीऐ भाई जां सतिगुर की कार कमाइ ॥
ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਸਉਪੇ ਜੀਅ ਸਉ ਭਾਈ ਲਏ ਹੁਕਮਿ ਫਿਰਾਉ ॥
तनु मनु सउपे जीअ सउ भाई लए हुकमि फिराउ ॥
ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਸਉਪੇ ਜੀਅ ਸਉ ਭਾਈ ਲਏ ਹੁਕਮਿ ਫਿਰਾਉ ॥
She surrenders her body, mind and soul, O Siblings of Destiny, and lives according to the Hukam of His Command.
ਹਉਮੈ ਫਿਕਾ ਬੋਲਣਾ ਬੁਝਿ ਨ ਸਕਾ ਕਾਰ ॥
हउमै फिका बोलणा बुझि न सका कार ॥
Houmai Fika Bolana Bujh N Saka Kar ||
Speaking in shallow egotism, no one understands the Ways of God.
ਜਹ ਬੈਸਾਵਹਿ ਬੈਸਹ ਭਾਈ ਜਹ ਭੇਜਹਿ ਤਹ ਜਾਉ ॥
जह बैसावहि बैसह भाई जह भेजहि तह जाउ ॥
Jeh Baisavehi Baiseh Bhaee Jeh Bhaejehi Theh Jao ||
I sit where He wishes me to sit, O Siblings of Destiny; wherever He sends me, I go.
ਏਵਡੁ ਧਨੁ ਹੋਰੁ ਕੋ ਨਹੀ ਭਾਈ ਜੇਵਡੁ ਸਚਾ ਨਾਉ ॥
एवडु धनु होरु को नही भाई जेवडु सचा नाउ ॥
Eaevadd Dhhan Hor Ko Nehee Bhaee Jaevadd Sacha Nao ||
There is no other wealth as great, O Siblings of Destiny; such is the greatness of the True Name.
ਸਦਾ ਸਚੇ ਕੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਾਂ ਭਾਈ ਸਦਾ ਸਚੇ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
सदा सचे के गुण गावां भाई सदा सचे कै संगि रहाउ ॥
Sadha Sachae Kae Gun Gavan Bhaee Sadha Sachae Kai Sang Rehao ||
I sing forever the Glorious Praises of the True Lord; I shall remain with the True One forever.
ਪੈਨਣੁ ਗੁਣ ਚੰਗਿਆਈਆ ਭਾਈ ਆਪਣੀ ਪਤਿ ਕੇ ਸਾਦ ਆਪੇ ਖਾਇ ॥
पैनणु गुण चंगिआईआ भाई आपणी पति के साद आपे खाइ ॥
Painan Gun Changiaeea Bhaee Apanee Path Kae Sadh Apae Khae ||
So wear the clothes of His Glorious Virtues and goodness, O Siblings of Destiny; eat and enjoy the flavor of your own honor.
ਤਿਸ ਕਾ ਕਿਆ ਸਾਲਾਹੀਐ ਭਾਈ ਦਰਸਨ ਕਉ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਇ ॥
तिस का किआ सालाहीऐ भाई दरसन कउ बलि जाइ ॥
This Ka Kia Salaheeai Bhaee Dharasan Ko Bal Jae ||
How can I praise Him, O Siblings of Destiny? I am a sacrifice to the Blessed Vision of His Darshan.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਵਿਚਿ ਵਡੀਆ ਵਡਿਆਈਆ ਭਾਈ ਕਰਮਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਤਾਂ ਪਾਇ ॥
सतिगुर विचि वडीआ वडिआईआ भाई करमि मिलै तां पाइ ॥
Sathigur Vich Vaddeea Vaddiaeea Bhaee Karam Milai Than Pae ||
Great is the Glorious Greatness of the True Guru, O Siblings of Destiny; if one is blessed with good karma, He is found.
ਇਕਿ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਮੰਨਿ ਨ ਜਾਣਨੀ ਭਾਈ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਫਿਰਾਇ ॥
इकि हुकमु मंनि न जाणनी भाई दूजै भाइ फिराइ ॥
Eik Hukam Mann N Jananee Bhaee Dhoojai Bhae Firae ||
Some do not know how to submit to the Hukam of His Command, O Siblings of Destiny; they wander around lost in the love of duality.
ਸੰਗਤਿ ਢੋਈ ਨਾ ਮਿਲੈ ਭਾਈ ਬੈਸਣਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਨ ਥਾਉ ॥
संगति ढोई ना मिलै भाई बैसणि मिलै न थाउ ॥
Sangath Dtoee Na Milai Bhaee Baisan Milai N Thhao ||
They find no place of rest in the Sangat, O Siblings of Destiny; they find no place to sit.
ਨਾਨਕ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਤਿਨਾ ਮਨਾਇਸੀ ਭਾਈ ਜਿਨਾ ਧੁਰੇ ਕਮਾਇਆ ਨਾਉ ॥
नानक हुकमु तिना मनाइसी भाई जिना धुरे कमाइआ नाउ ॥
Naanak Hukam Thina Manaeisee Bhaee Jina Dhhurae Kamaeia Nao ||
Nanak: they alone submit to His Command, O Siblings of Destiny, who are pre-destined to live the Name.
ਤਿਨ੍ ਵਿਟਹੁ ਹਉ ਵਾਰਿਆ ਭਾਈ ਤਿਨ ਕਉ ਸਦ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੈ ਜਾਉ ॥੫੧॥
तिन् विटहु हउ वारिआ भाई तिन कउ सद बलिहारै जाउ ॥५१॥
Thinh Vittahu Ho Varia Bhaee Thin Ko Sadh Baliharai Jao ||51||
I am a sacrifice to them, O Siblings of Destiny, I am forever a sacrifice to them. ||51||
ਸੇ ਦਾੜੀਆਂ ਸਚੀਆ ਜਿ ਗੁਰ ਚਰਨੀ ਲਗੰਨ੍ ਿ॥
से दाड़ीआं सचीआ जि गुर चरनी लगंन् ि॥
Sae Dharreeaan Sacheea J Gur Charanee Lagannih ||
Those beards are true, which brush the feet of the True Guru.
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਸੇਵਨਿ ਗੁਰੁ ਆਪਣਾ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਅਨਦਿ ਰਹੰਨ੍ ਿ॥
अनदिनु सेवनि गुरु आपणा अनदिनु अनदि रहंन् ि॥
Anadhin Saevan Gur Apana Anadhin Anadh Rehannih ||
Those who serve their Guru night and day, live in bliss, night and day.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸੇ ਮੁਹ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਸਚੈ ਦਰਿ ਦਿਸੰਨ੍ ਿ॥੫੨॥
नानक से मुह सोहणे सचै दरि दिसंन् ि॥५२॥
Naanak Sae Muh Sohanae Sachai Dhar Dhisannih ||52||
O Nanak, their faces appear beautiful in the Court of the True Lord. ||52||
ਮੁਖ ਸਚੇ ਸਚੁ ਦਾੜੀਆ ਸਚੁ ਬੋਲਹਿ ਸਚੁ ਕਮਾਹਿ ॥
मुख सचे सचु दाड़ीआ सचु बोलहि सचु कमाहि ॥
Mukh Sachae Sach Dharreea Sach Bolehi Sach Kamahi ||
True are the faces and true are the beards, of those who speak the Truth and live the Truth.
ਸਚਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਮਾਂਹਿ ਸਮਾਂਹਿ ॥
सचा सबदु मनि वसिआ सतिगुर मांहि समांहि ॥
Sacha Sabadh Man Vasia Sathigur Manhi Samanhi ||
The True Word of the Shabad abides in their minds; they are absorbed in the True Guru.
ਸਚੀ ਰਾਸੀ ਸਚੁ ਧਨੁ ਉਤਮ ਪਦਵੀ ਪਾਂਹਿ ॥
सची रासी सचु धनु उतम पदवी पांहि ॥
Sachee Rasee Sach Dhhan Outham Padhavee Panhi ||
True is their capital, and true is their wealth; they are blessed with the ultimate status.
ਸਚੁ ਸੁਣਹਿ ਸਚੁ ਮੰਨਿ ਲੈਨਿ ਸਚੀ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਹਿ ॥
सचु सुणहि सचु मंनि लैनि सची कार कमाहि ॥
Sach Sunehi Sach Mann Lain Sachee Kar Kamahi ||
They hear the Truth, they believe in the Truth; they act and work in the Truth.
ਸਚੀ ਦਰਗਹ ਬੈਸਣਾ ਸਚੇ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਹਿ ॥
सची दरगह बैसणा सचे माहि समाहि ॥
Sachee Dharageh Baisana Sachae Mahi Samahi ||
They are given a place in the Court of the True Lord; they are absorbed in the True Lord.
ਨਾਨਕ ਵਿਣੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਚੁ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਭੂਲੇ ਜਾਂਹਿ ॥੫੩॥

बाबीहा प्रिउ प्रिउ करे जलनिधि प्रेम पिआरि ॥
ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲੇ ਸੀਤਲ ਜਲੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਸਭਿ ਦੂਖ ਨਿਵਾਰਣਹਾਰੁ ॥
गुर मिले सीतल जलु पाइआ सभि दूख निवारणहारु ॥
Gur Milae Seethal Jal Paeia Sabh Dhookh Nivaranehar ||
Meeting with the Guru, the cooling, soothing water is obtained, and all pain is taken away.
ਤਿਸ ਚੁਕੈ ਸਹਜੁ ਊਪਜੈ ਚੁਕੈ ਕੂਕ ਪੁਕਾਰ ॥
तिस चुकै सहजु ऊपजै चुकै कूक पुकार ॥
This Chukai Sehaj Oopajai Chukai Kook Pukar ||
My thirst has been quenched, and intuitive peace and poise have welled up; my cries and screams of anguish are past.
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਹੋਇ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਖਹੁ ਉਰਿ ਧਾਰਿ ॥੫੪॥
नानक गुरमुखि सांति होइ नामु रखहु उरि धारि ॥५४॥
Naanak Guramukh Santh Hoe Nam Rakhahu Our Dhhar ||54||
O Nanak, the Gurmukhs are peaceful and tranquil; they enshrine the Naam, the Name of the Lord, within their hearts. ||54||
ਬਾਬੀਹਾ ਤੂੰ ਸਚੁ ਚਉ ਸਚੇ ਸਉ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥
बाबीहा तूं सचु चउ सचे सउ लिव लाइ ॥

O rainbird, chirp the True Name, and let yourself be attuned to the True Lord.
ਬੋਲਿਆ ਤੇਰਾ ਥਾਇ ਪਵੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਇ ਅਲਾਇ ॥
बोलिआ तेरा थाइ पवै गुरमुखि होइ अलाइ ॥
Bolia Thaera Thhae Pavai Guramukh Hoe Alae ||
Your word shall be accepted and approved, if you speak as Gurmukh.
ਸਬਦੁ ਚੀਨਿ ਤਿਖ ਉਤਰੈ ਮੰਨਿ ਲੈ ਰਜਾਇ ॥
सबदु चीनि तिख उतरै मंनि लै रजाइ ॥
Sabadh Cheen Thikh Outharai Mann Lai Rajae ||
Remember the Shabad, and your thirst shall be relieved; surrender to the Will of the Lord.
ਚਾਰੇ ਕੁੰਡਾ ਝੋਕਿ ਵਰਸਦਾ ਬੂੰਦ ਪਵੈ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥
चारे कुंडा झोकि वरसदा बूंद पवै सहजि सुभाइ ॥
Charae Kundda Jhok Varasadha Boondh Pavai Sehaj Subhae ||
The clouds are heavy, hanging low, and the rain is pouring down on all sides; the rain-drop is received, with natural ease.
ਜਲ ਹੀ ਤੇ ਸਭ ਊਪਜੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਜਲ ਪਿਆਸ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
जल ही ते सभ ऊपजै बिनु जल पिआस न जाइ ॥
Jal Hee Thae Sabh Oopajai Bin Jal Pias N Jae ||
From water, everything is produced; without water, thirst is not quenched.
ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਜਲੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਪੀਆ ਤਿਸੁ ਭੂਖ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ਆਇ ॥੫੫॥
नानक हरि जलु जिनि पीआ तिसु भूख न लागै आइ ॥५५॥
Naanak Har Jal Jin Peea This Bhookh N Lagai Ae ||55||
O Nanak, whoever drinks in the Water of the Lord, shall never feel hunger again. ||55||
ਬਾਬੀਹਾ ਤੂੰ ਸਹਜਿ ਬੋਲਿ ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥

O rainbird, speak the Shabad, the True Word of God, with natural peace and poise.
ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਤੇਰੈ ਨਾਲਿ ਹੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਦੀਆ ਦਿਖਾਇ ॥
सभु किछु तेरै नालि है सतिगुरि दीआ दिखाइ ॥
Sabh Kishh Thaerai Nal Hai Sathigur Dheea Dhikhae ||
Everything is with you; the True Guru will show you this.
ਆਪੁ ਪਛਾਣਹਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਵੁਠਾ ਛਹਬਰ ਲਾਇ ॥
आपु पछाणहि प्रीतमु मिलै वुठा छहबर लाइ ॥
Ap Pashhanehi Preetham Milai Vutha Shhehabar Lae ||
So understand your own self, and meet your Beloved; His Grace shall rain down in torrents.
ਝਿਮਿ ਝਿਮਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਵਰਸਦਾ ਤਿਸਨਾ ਭੁਖ ਸਭ ਜਾਇ ॥
झिमि झिमि अंम्रितु वरसदा तिसना भुख सभ जाइ ॥
Jhim Jhim Anmrith Varasadha Thisana Bhukh Sabh Jae ||
Drop by drop, the Ambrosial Nectar rains down softly and gently; thirst and hunger are completely gone.
ਕੂਕ ਪੁਕਾਰ ਨ ਹੋਵਈ ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥
कूक पुकार न होवई जोती जोति मिलाइ ॥
Kook Pukar N Hovee Jothee Joth Milae ||
Your cries and screams of anguish have ceased; your light shall merge into the Light.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸੁਖਿ ਸਵਨ੍ ਿਸੋਹਾਗਣੀ ਸਚੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੫੬॥
नानक सुखि सवन् िसोहागणी सचै नामि समाइ ॥५६॥
Naanak Sukh Savanih Sohaganee Sachai Nam Samae ||56||
O Nanak, the happy soul-brides sleep in peace; they are absorbed in the True Name. ||56||
ਧੁਰਹੁ ਖਸਮਿ ਭੇਜਿਆ ਸਚੈ ਹੁਕਮਿ ਪਠਾਇ ॥
धुरहु खसमि भेजिआ सचै हुकमि पठाइ ॥
Dhhurahu Khasam Bhaejia Sachai Hukam Pathae ||
The Primal Lord and Master has sent out the True Hukam of His Command.
ਇੰਦੁ ਵਰਸੈ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਿ ਗੂੜ੍ੀ ਛਹਬਰ ਲਾਇ ॥
इंदु वरसै दइआ करि गूड़्ी छहबर लाइ ॥
Eindh Varasai Dhaeia Kar Goorrhee Shhehabar Lae ||
Indra mercifully sends forth the rain, which falls in torrents.
ਬਾਬੀਹੇ ਤਨਿ ਮਨਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ਜਾਂ ਤਤੁ ਬੂੰਦ ਮੁਹਿ ਪਾਇ ॥
बाबीहे तनि मनि सुखु होइ जां ततु बूंद मुहि पाइ ॥
Babeehae Than Man Sukh Hoe Jan Thath Boondh Muhi Pae ||
The body and mind of the rainbird are happy. only when the rain-drop falls into its mouth.
ਅਨੁ ਧਨੁ ਬਹੁਤਾ ਉਪਜੈ ਧਰਤੀ ਸੋਭਾ ਪਾਇ ॥
अनु धनु बहुता उपजै धरती सोभा पाइ ॥
An Dhhan Bahutha Oupajai Dhharathee Sobha Pae ||
The corn grows high, wealth increases, and the earth is embellished with beauty.
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਲੋਕੁ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥
अनदिनु लोकु भगति करे गुर कै सबदि समाइ ॥
Anadhin Lok Bhagath Karae Gur Kai Sabadh Samae ||
Night and day, people worship the Lord with devotion, and are absorbed in the Word of the Guru*s Shabad.
ਆਪੇ ਸਚਾ ਬਖਸਿ ਲਏ ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰੈ ਰਜਾਇ ॥
आपे सचा बखसि लए करि किरपा करै रजाइ ॥
Apae Sacha Bakhas Leae Kar Kirapa Karai Rajae ||
The True Lord Himself forgives them, and showering them with His Mercy, He leads them to walk in His Will.
ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਹੁ ਕਾਮਣੀ ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥
हरि गुण गावहु कामणी सचै सबदि समाइ ॥
Har Gun Gavahu Kamanee Sachai Sabadh Samae ||
O brides, sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, and be absorbed in the True Word of His Shabad.
ਭੈ ਕਾ ਸਹਜੁ ਸੀਗਾਰੁ ਕਰਿਹੁ ਸਚਿ ਰਹਹੁ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥
भै का सहजु सीगारु करिहु सचि रहहु लिव लाइ ॥
Bhai Ka Sehaj Seegar Karihu Sach Rehahu Liv Lae ||
Let the Fear of God be your decoration, and remain lovingly attuned to the True Lord.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੋ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਹਰਿ ਦਰਗਹ ਲਏ ਛਡਾਇ ॥੫੭॥
नानक नामो मनि वसै हरि दरगह लए छडाइ ॥५७॥
Naanak Namo Man Vasai Har Dharageh Leae Shhaddae ||57||
O Nanak, the Naam abides in the mind, and the mortal is saved in the Court of the Lord. ||57||
ਬਾਬੀਹਾ ਸਗਲੀ ਧਰਤੀ ਜੇ ਫਿਰਹਿ ਊਡਿ ਚੜਹਿ ਆਕਾਸਿ ॥
बाबीहा सगली धरती जे फिरहि ऊडि चड़हि आकासि ॥
Babeeha Sagalee Dhharathee Jae Firehi Oodd Charrehi Akas ||
The rainbird wanders all over the earth, soaring high through the skies.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਜਲੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਚੂਕੈ ਭੂਖ ਪਿਆਸ ॥
सतिगुरि मिलिऐ जलु पाईऐ चूकै भूख पिआस ॥
Sathigur Miliai Jal Paeeai Chookai Bhookh Pias ||
But it obtains the drop of water, only when it meets the True Guru, and then, its hunger and thirst are relieved.
ਜੀਉ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਸਭੁ ਤਿਸ ਕਾ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਤਿਸ ਕੈ ਪਾਸਿ ॥
जीउ पिंडु सभु तिस का सभु किछु तिस कै पासि ॥
Jeeo Pindd Sabh This Ka Sabh Kishh This Kai Pas ||
Soul and body and all belong to Him; everything is His.
ਵਿਣੁ ਬੋਲਿਆ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਕਿਸੁ ਆਗੈ ਕੀਚੈ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ॥
विणु बोलिआ सभु किछु जाणदा किसु आगै कीचै अरदासि ॥
Vin Bolia Sabh Kishh Janadha Kis Agai Keechai Aradhas ||
He knows everything, without being told; unto whom should we offer our prayers?
ਨਾਨਕ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਏਕੋ ਵਰਤਦਾ ਸਬਦਿ ਕਰੇ ਪਰਗਾਸ ॥੫੮॥
नानक घटि घटि एको वरतदा सबदि करे परगास ॥५८॥
Naanak Ghatt Ghatt Eaeko Varathadha Sabadh Karae Paragas ||58||
O Nanak, the One Lord is prevading and permeating each and every heart; the Word of the Shabad brings illumination. ||58||
ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਸੈ ਬਸੰਤੁ ਹੈ ਜਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥
नानक तिसै बसंतु है जि सतिगुरु सेवि समाइ ॥
Naanak Thisai Basanth Hai J Sathigur Saev Samae ||
O Nanak, the season of spring comes to one who serves the True Guru.
ਹਰਿ ਵੁਠਾ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਸਭੁ ਪਰਫੜੈ ਸਭੁ ਜਗੁ ਹਰੀਆਵਲੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੫੯॥
हरि वुठा मनु तनु सभु परफड़ै सभु जगु हरीआवलु होइ ॥५९॥
Har Vutha Man Than Sabh Parafarrai Sabh Jag Hareeaval Hoe ||59||
The Lord rains His Mercy down upon him, and his mind and body totally blossom forth; the entire world becomes green and rejuvenated. ||59||
ਸਬਦੇ ਸਦਾ ਬਸੰਤੁ ਹੈ ਜਿਤੁ ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਹਰਿਆ ਹੋਇ ॥
सबदे सदा बसंतु है जितु तनु मनु हरिआ होइ ॥
Sabadhae Sadha Basanth Hai Jith Than Man Haria Hoe ||
The Word of the Shabad brings eternal spring; it rejuvenates the mind and body.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਵੀਸਰੈ ਜਿਨਿ ਸਿਰਿਆ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਇ ॥੬੦॥
नानक नामु न वीसरै जिनि सिरिआ सभु कोइ ॥६०॥
Naanak Nam N Veesarai Jin Siria Sabh Koe ||60||
O Nanak, do not forget the Naam, the Name of the Lord, which has created everyone. ||60||
ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਨਾ ਬਸੰਤੁ ਹੈ ਜਿਨਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਮਨਿ ਸੋਇ ॥
नानक तिना बसंतु है जिना गुरमुखि वसिआ मनि सोइ ॥
Naanak Thina Basanth Hai Jina Guramukh Vasia Man Soe ||
O Nanak, it is the spring season, for those Gurmukhs, within whose minds the Lord abides.
ਹਰਿ ਵੁਠੈ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਪਰਫੜੈ ਸਭੁ ਜਗੁ ਹਰਿਆ ਹੋਇ ॥੬੧॥
हरि वुठै मनु तनु परफड़ै सभु जगु हरिआ होइ ॥६१॥
Har Vuthai Man Than Parafarrai Sabh Jag Haria Hoe ||61||
When the Lord showers His Mercy, the mind and body blossom forth, and all the world turns green and lush. ||61||
ਵਡੜੈ ਝਾਲਿ ਝਲੁੰਭਲੈ ਨਾਵੜਾ ਲਈਐ ਕਿਸੁ ॥
वडड़ै झालि झलुंभलै नावड़ा लईऐ किसु ॥
Vaddarrai Jhal Jhalunbhalai Navarra Leeai Kis ||
In the early hours of the morning, whose name should we chant?
ਨਾਉ ਲਈਐ ਪਰਮੇਸਰੈ ਭੰਨਣ ਘੜਣ ਸਮਰਥੁ ॥੬੨॥
नाउ लईऐ परमेसरै भंनण घड़ण समरथु ॥६२॥
Nao Leeai Paramaesarai Bhannan Gharran Samarathh ||62||
Chant the Name of the Transcendent Lord, who is All-powerful to create and destroy. ||62||
ਹਰਹਟ ਭੀ ਤੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਕਰਹਿ ਬੋਲਹਿ ਭਲੀ ਬਾਣਿ ॥
हरहट भी तूं तूं करहि बोलहि भली बाणि ॥
Harehatt Bhee Thoon Thoon Karehi Bolehi Bhalee Ban ||
The Persian wheel also cries out, ****Too! Too! You! You!****, with sweet and sublime sounds.
ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਸਦਾ ਹਦੂਰਿ ਹੈ ਕਿਆ ਉਚੀ ਕਰਹਿ ਪੁਕਾਰ ॥
साहिबु सदा हदूरि है किआ उची करहि पुकार ॥
Sahib Sadha Hadhoor Hai Kia Ouchee Karehi Pukar ||
Our Lord and Master is always present; why do you cry out to Him in such a loud voice?
ਜਿਨਿ ਜਗਤੁ ਉਪਾਇ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗੁ ਕੀਆ ਤਿਸੈ ਵਿਟਹੁ ਕੁਰਬਾਣੁ ॥
जिनि जगतु उपाइ हरि रंगु कीआ तिसै विटहु कुरबाणु ॥
Jin Jagath Oupae Har Rang Keea Thisai Vittahu Kuraban ||
I am a sacrifice to that Lord who created the world, and who loves it.
ਆਪੁ ਛੋਡਹਿ ਤਾਂ ਸਹੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਸਚਾ ਏਹੁ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥
आपु छोडहि तां सहु मिलै सचा एहु वीचारु ॥
Ap Shhoddehi Than Sahu Milai Sacha Eaehu Veechar ||
Give up your selfishness, and then you shall meet your Husband Lord. Consider this Truth.
ਵਣੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਣੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣੁ ਤੁਝੈ ਧਿਆਇਦਾ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਸਦਾ ਵਿਹਾਣ ॥
वणु त्रिणु त्रिभवणु तुझै धिआइदा अनदिनु सदा विहाण ॥
Van Thrin Thribhavan Thujhai Dhhiaeidha Anadhin Sadha Vihan ||
The forests and fields, and all the three worlds meditate on You, O Lord; this is the way they pass their days and nights forever.
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕਿਨੈ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਥਕੇ ਵੀਚਾਰ ॥
बिनु सतिगुर किनै न पाइआ करि करि थके वीचार ॥
Bin Sathigur Kinai N Paeia Kar Kar Thhakae Veechar ||
Without the True Guru, no one finds the Lord. People have grown weary of thinking about it.
ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਜੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਤਾਂ ਆਪੇ ਲੈਹਿ ਸਵਾਰਿ ॥
नदरि करहि जे आपणी तां आपे लैहि सवारि ॥
Nadhar Karehi Jae Apanee Than Apae Laihi Savar ||
But if the Lord casts His Glance of Grace, then He Himself embellishes us.
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਿਨ੍ੀ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਆਏ ਸੇ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥੬੩॥
नानक गुरमुखि जिन्ी धिआइआ आए से परवाणु ॥६३॥
Naanak Guramukh Jinhee Dhhiaeia Aeae Sae Paravan ||63||
O Nanak, the Gurmukhs meditate on the Lord; blessed and approved is their coming into the world. ||63||
ਜੋਗੁ ਨ ਭਗਵੀ ਕਪੜੀ ਜੋਗੁ ਨ ਮੈਲੇ ਵੇਸਿ ॥
जोगु न भगवी कपड़ी जोगु न मैले वेसि ॥
Jog N Bhagavee Kaparree Jog N Mailae Vaes ||
Yoga is not obtained by wearing saffron robes; Yoga is not obtained by wearing dirty robes.
ਨਾਨਕ ਘਰਿ ਬੈਠਿਆ ਜੋਗੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਉਪਦੇਸਿ ॥੬੪॥
नानक घरि बैठिआ जोगु पाईऐ सतिगुर कै उपदेसि ॥६४॥
Naanak Ghar Baithia Jog Paeeai Sathigur Kai Oupadhaes ||64||
O Nanak, Yoga is obtained even while sitting in your own home, by following the Teachings of the True Guru. ||64||
ਚਾਰੇ ਕੁੰਡਾ ਜੇ ਭਵਹਿ ਬੇਦ ਪੜਹਿ ਜੁਗ ਚਾਰਿ ॥
चारे कुंडा जे भवहि बेद पड़हि जुग चारि ॥
Charae Kundda Jae Bhavehi Baedh Parrehi Jug Char ||
You may wander in all four directions, and read the Vedas throughout the four ages.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਚਾ ਭੇਟੈ ਹਰਿ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਮੋਖ ਦੁਆਰ ॥੬੫॥
नानक साचा भेटै हरि मनि वसै पावहि मोख दुआर ॥६५॥
Naanak Sacha Bhaettai Har Man Vasai Pavehi Mokh Dhuar ||65||
O Nanak, if you meet with the True Guru, the Lord shall come to dwell within your mind, and you shall find the door of salvation. ||65||
ਨਾਨਕ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਵਰਤੈ ਖਸਮ ਕਾ ਮਤਿ ਭਵੀ ਫਿਰਹਿ ਚਲ ਚਿਤ ॥
नानक हुकमु वरतै खसम का मति भवी फिरहि चल चित ॥
Naanak Hukam Varathai Khasam Ka Math Bhavee Firehi Chal Chith ||
O Nanak, the Hukam, the Command of your Lord and Master, is prevailing. The intellectually confused person wanders around lost, misled by his fickle consciousness.
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਸਉ ਕਰਿ ਦੋਸਤੀ ਸੁਖ ਕਿ ਪੁਛਹਿ ਮਿਤ ॥
मनमुख सउ करि दोसती सुख कि पुछहि मित ॥
Manamukh So Kar Dhosathee Sukh K Pushhehi Mith ||
If you make friends with the self-willed manmukhs, O friend, who can you ask for peace?
ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਸਉ ਕਰਿ ਦੋਸਤੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਉ ਲਾਇ ਚਿਤੁ ॥
गुरमुख सउ करि दोसती सतिगुर सउ लाइ चितु ॥
Guramukh So Kar Dhosathee Sathigur So Lae Chith ||
Make friends with the Gurmukhs, and focus your consciousness on the True Guru.
ਜੰਮਣ ਮਰਣ ਕਾ ਮੂਲੁ ਕਟੀਐ ਤਾਂ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਵੀ ਮਿਤ ॥੬੬॥
जंमण मरण का मूलु कटीऐ तां सुखु होवी मित ॥६६॥
Janman Maran Ka Mool Katteeai Than Sukh Hovee Mith ||66||
The root of birth and death will be cut away, and then, you shall find peace, O friend. ||66||
ਭੁਲਿਆਂ ਆਪਿ ਸਮਝਾਇਸੀ ਜਾ ਕਉ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ॥
भुलिआं आपि समझाइसी जा कउ नदरि करे ॥
Bhuliaan Ap Samajhaeisee Ja Ko Nadhar Karae ||
The Lord Himself instructs those who are misguided, when He casts His Glance of Grace.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਦਰੀ ਬਾਹਰੀ ਕਰਣ ਪਲਾਹ ਕਰੇ ॥੬੭॥
नानक नदरी बाहरी करण पलाह करे ॥६७॥
Naanak Nadharee Baharee Karan Palah Karae ||67||
O Nanak, those who are not blessed by His Glance of Grace, cry and weep and wail. ||67||
